HAMILTON, ON (June 14, 2026) – PWHL Hamilton today announced that defenders Riley Brengman and Allyson Simpson have each signed two-year Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) Standard Player Agreements ahead of the team’s inaugural 2026-27 season. Brengman, whose contract rights were held by the Boston Fleet, and Simpson, who was under contract with the New York Sirens, have new deals through the 2027-28 campaign and bring the PWHL Hamilton roster to eight players with two more to be added during Phase 4 of the PWHL’s Expansion Player Distribution Process.

Brengman spent her rookie season with Boston after being selected in the fourth round, 26th overall, in the 2025 PWHL Draft. The 23-year-old from China Township, MI, contributed three points (2G, 1A) in 28 regular-season games and appeared in all four of the Fleet’s playoff games. On Dec. 21, 2025, she made history as the first-ever rookie defender to score a shorthanded ‘jailbreak’ goal. A graduate of Ohio State University, Brengman was a two-time NCAA National Champion with the Buckeyes (2022, 2024) and appeared in 168 games throughout her collegiate career, earning 61 points (14G, 47A).

Simpson collected five points in 30 regular-season games in her sophomore campaign with the Sirens, leading the team’s blue line with three goals and finishing third among the group in points and average time on ice (19:17). A native of Frisco, TX, the 25-year-old was selected by New York in the third round, 16th overall, in the 2024 PWHL Draft and has contributed 10 points (4G, 6A) in 60 career games. She competed collegiately at Colgate University and earned back-to-back gold medals with Team USA in the 2017 and 2018 IIHF U18 Women’s World Championships. This season, Simpson was actively involved in raising awareness and funds for her father's Parkinson's disease through her "Shake On" campaign, which has generated over $50,000 in pledges to date.

On PWHL Hamilton, Brengman and Simpson follow the team’s first two blue line acquisitions in Nicole Gosling (Phase 2) and Zoe Boyd (Phase 3). Brengman reunites with Boyd and fellow Fleet teammate Alina Müller, signed in Phase 2, and Head Coach Kris Sparre. Simpson reunites with goaltender Kayle Osborne, who signed in Phase 2, after the pair played together for two seasons with the Sirens and four seasons at Colgate. In Phase 2, PWHL Hamilton also signed forwards Emily Clark and Brianne Jenner.

At the end of the Phase 4 signing period on Monday, each expansion team will have 10 total players through signings and, if necessary, a player selection process. Players eligible to be signed in Phase 4 are those not signed or protected in Phases 1-3, including players on expiring contracts and players under contract for 2026-27. Existing teams can lose a maximum of four players who are under contract for the 2026-27 season in Phases 1-4.

A complete list of player signings and transactions is available on the official PWHL Transactions Page. To see the full overview of the status of PWHL player contracts, visit the PWHL Contract Guide here.
