WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
Vancouver and Boston share one win apiece in regulation, with the Fleet winning the latest matchup, 2-1, in overtime, the first game needing the extra period in the season series. Vancouver has been held to 22.7 shots on goal per game over the three games, the Goldeneyes’ lowest mark against any PWHL team.
The Goldeneyes have scored 13 goals in away games this season, the fewest by any PWHL team. Vancouver has scored multiple goals in only three of its 10 road games this season. One of those was a Takeover Tour game at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, a 4-3 win over Boston on Jan. 3.
This is the first of five straight road games for Vancouver, a trip that ends with the Goldeneyes serving as the home team against Boston in a Takeover Tour game in Edmonton on Apr. 7. That will be the fifth different venue for a game in the season series, most of any matchup leaguewide. Vancouver previously played six straight games away from Pacific Coliseum from Dec. 27 to Jan. 17 and earned just five of a possible 18 points, with three of them in the regulation win over Boston in Detroit.
Mannon McMahon scored Vancouver’s lone goal against the Frost on Saturday and has now scored in consecutive games for the first time in her career. The two goals are her first with the Goldeneyes (eight games) after a mid-January trade from Ottawa where she scored five goals in 43 regular-season games. She has six shots on goal in her last two games.
Jenn Gardiner’s primary assist on Saturday brought her season point total to double digits (3G, 7A), a milestone she has now reached in consecutive seasons (5G, 13A in 2024-25 with Montréal). She has an assist in consecutive games for her third two-game point streak this season.
Hannah Miller recorded her best game of the season with a goal and two assists when these teams met in Detroit, the only three-point performance by a Goldeneye this season. The Vancouver native also recorded the team’s lone goal against Boston on Mar. 10 and leads all skaters with four points in the season series.
Sydney Bard, who spent her rookie season with Boston after being selected by the Fleet in the fourth round in 2024, scored the only goal of her PWHL career to date at the Tsongas Center on Dec 8, 2024, a power play tally in a 4-2 win over New York.
Boston recorded a 3-0 win over Seattle on Saturday, the Fleet’s fifth shutout of the season, most in the PWHL. Boston’s next shutout would be its ninth all-time, which would tie New York for the most regular-season shutouts in league history. The Fleet are undefeated at the Tsongas Center this season (3-1-0-0) and a regulation win would set a new team points record.
Aerin Frankel set a new single-season record with her fifth shutout of the season and leads all PWHL goaltenders with seven career shutouts. She has started all three games of the season series with a 1.66 GAA and .926 SV%.
Susanna Tapani has six points (3G, 3A) in seven games post-Olympics, tied with Alina Müller (1G, 5A) for the team lead in that span. The Finnish forward scored a goal and provided an assist against Seattle, her sixth such game in the last two seasons, with each occurring at the Tsongas Center. The only players with more such games in that time are Hilary Knight (seven) and Jessie Eldridge (nine).
Haley Winn scored her third goal, and first on home ice Saturday against Seattle, also adding an assist for 12 points and nine assists on the season. Among rookies, Winn is tied for third in points with Kristýna Kaltounková and tied for second in assists with Casey O’Brien. She scored against Vancouver on Mar. 10 and leads all Fleet skaters with 70 shots on goal.
Megan Keller recorded an assist on Boston’s opening goal Saturday, bringing her assist total to 10 for the second time in her career. She improved to 16 points this season, setting a new career-high and bringing her to within one of 45 career points. The Fleet captain is still looking for her first point against Vancouver. The PWHL record for points in a season by a defender is 22 (Sophie Jaques and Renata Fast, 2024-25).
Shay Maloney scored the overtime winner the last time these teams met on Mar. 10. It marked her second game-winner and third goal of the season. The second-year forward has four points, almost halfway to her rookie output of nine.
Loren Gabel visited Arlington Middle School on Monday with Everyone's a Player, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing access and equitable opportunities for youth in under resourced communities. She spent time talking with the students about being a pro athlete and playing floor hockey.
WHAT THEY’RE SAYING
“We're excited to kick off the road trip in Boston. We're going to play with a lot of pace and play physical. We know Boston is a good team, so we have to bring the energy right from the jump.” – Goldeneyes forward Abby Boreen
“It's been nice being on a three-game homestand. I think we just want to finish it off on a high note before we hit the road again. Vancouver has given us a lot of great games this season and points are critical at this point in the year. We want to make sure we're staying at the top of the standings, but for now we're just looking forward to the challenge here at home.” – Fleet alternate captain Jamie Lee Rattray
TUESDAY’S GAME: The Fleet’s final home game before a three-game road trip is the fourth of five regular-season meetings between Boston and Vancouver and the first time the Fleet welcome the Goldeneyes to the Tsongas Center after previously hosting the Canadian expansion team at Agganis Arena on Dec. 3. It’s ‘High School Night’ at the Tsongas Center where the Fleet will honor graduating seniors from 15 local high schools across Massachusetts with a special on-ice parade during the first intermission. The first 3,000 fans through the doors tonight will receive a special Alina Müller Bobblehead, while quantities last. As part of the PWHL’s ongoing community engagement, young athletes from the PWHL Mentorship Program, developed in partnership with Strong Girls United and made possible with support from Kyndryl, Founding Partner of the program, will be in attendance for a shared live-game experience paired with meaningful mentorship. The experience is designed to celebrate mentorship, foster leadership, and inspire the next generation of women in sport by connecting young girls with role models both on and off the ice. Mentees will participate in a post-game meet-and-greet with their Fleet Athlete Mentors, including Aerin Frankel, Hadley Hartmetz and Rylind MacKinnon, offering an opportunity for conversation, relationship-building, and exposure to career pathways both within and beyond sports. Fans can find activations throughout the concourse from the Northeast Intercounty Scholastic Hockey League (NISHL), Performance Sport Events, and a sign-making station in partnership with Midea.
