WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
Game 2 between the Charge and Victoire went 135 minutes and 33 seconds, the longest game in PWHL history. Only eight NHL games have gone longer all-time, including a Montreal Maroons defeat in six overtimes on Mar 24, 1936, to the Detroit Red Wings.
Montréal scored the first two goals of the game on Sunday, something they did nine times during the regular season. The Victoire won eight of their nine occasions when scoring the first two goals of a game, with the lone loss coming in a shootout to Boston on Jan. 5.
Catherine Dubois, the overtime hero in Game 2, has scored three of her seven goals in 2024-25 against the Charge, including Jan. 19 in Québec City and Apr. 26 in Ottawa which started a three-game goal scoring streak to end the season. She’s the fourth Victoire player to score a game-winner against the Charge this season, following Mikyla Grant-Mentis, Kati Tabin and Jennifer Gardiner.
Laura Stacey had 12 shots on goal and over 45 minutes of ice time in Game 2. No other PWHL or NHL player has reached those totals in any game over the last 20 years.
Marie-Philip Poulin has totaled 34 shots on goal and 108 faceoff wins in her PWHL playoff career. The only other PWHL player to total at least 30 shots on goal and 100 faceoff wins in her postseason career is Taylor Heise (31, 121).
Anna Wilgren (3A) and Gardiner (2A) have produced offensively in each of their first two career playoff games.
Kaitlin Willoughby had the fourth-most time on ice in Game 2 among Victoire forwards. Her 40:21 is more than half the ice time she accumulated in seven regular season games since joining the team in a trade from Toronto on Mar. 13. Montréal had 15 players record more than 25 minutes of ice time, compared to only 10 who exceeded 25 minutes in the 3OT game in last year’s playoffs.
The Charge will host their first-ever playoff game at TD Place where they played to a 5-1-2-5 (.487) record during the regular season, including regulation wins in both games against the Victoire. Montréal was the league’s best road team during the season with a 6-2-3-4 (.556) record.
Brianne Jenner has seven goals in her last 11 games and has recorded a goal and at least four shots on goal in back-to-back playoff games. The only other PWHL players to reach those marks in consecutive games of a single postseason are Kristin O’Neill (May 9-11, 2024) and Taylor Heise (May 17-19, 2024).
Gwyneth Philips, who set a rookie record with 53 saves, and Ann-Renée Desbiens, who set a PWHL record with 63 saves in Game 2, have both played over 194 minutes in two games. That’s more than Toronto’s Kristen Campbell (176:54) has amassed in three games in the league’s other semifinal.
Emily Clark (3A) and Tereza Vanišová (3A) both have three-game point streaks, and Aneta Tejralová (1G, 1A) has also produced in her first two career playoff games. Vanišová leads the team with 14 shots on goal in the playoffs after tying Clark for the team lead with 87 during the regular season.
Ottawa had 17 different players record a shot on goal in Game 2 against Montréal. That is the most such players by any PWHL team in a single playoff game all-time.
Tejralová and fellow defender Ronja Savolainen both went sprint running after Game 2, even after exceeding 40 minutes of ice time. “I still had fuel to go a few more periods,” joked Savolainen on Monday.
Prior to the series, the City of Ottawa installed a “Charge Avenue” road sign at the intersection of Bank Street and Exhibition Way to celebrate the team’s first playoff appearance.
WHAT THEY’RE SAYING
“The line of Dubois, Willoughby and O'Neill brings a bit of everything. There's speed, there's stature, there's defensive behaviour. This group can offer different ways of beating you. With us, they play in situations where the opposition is tough. And I thought they handled those situations very well on Sunday.” - Victoire Head Coach Kori Cheverie.
"It’s always a thrill to play at TD Place and for fans to get their first taste of playoff hockey. We're pretty pumped to see it. Hopefully this roof stays intact, and I feel like if there's a crowd that can take a roof down, it's ours. So, we're really excited to be at home and feel the energy behind us and with us. And now it's going to be a great game Tuesday.” - Charge Head Coach Carla MacLeod.
