WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
Boston won their last game against Seattle, 3-1, putting up 38 shots on goal. That is the Fleet’s highest shot total of the season and tied for the second most by the team in any regular-season game all-time (Apr. 20, 2024), behind 46 on Mar. 10, 2024 against New York. The Fleet became the first team in PWHL history to have three different defenders score in a single regular-season game.
Daniela Pejšová scored her first career goal against Seattle. The Czech defender is the 12th different goal scorer for the Fleet this season, most among all PWHL teams. The Charge have 11 different goal scorers, second most in the PWHL.
Riley Brengman has goals in two straight games, as the Fleet fourth-round pick became the first rookie and second defender to score a shorthanded goal this season when she sniped in the final seconds of the first period in Seattle.
Megan Keller became the first defender to reach three goals this season and first skater to produce a four-game point streak when she scored in the third period against the Torrent. Her 12 total goals in the PWHL are second most among defenders all-time, behind Ella Shelton (17).
Jamie Lee Rattray, who hails from Kanata, ON, has two goals and one assist in Boston’s five previous games at TD Place. The Fleet alternate captain, tied for the team lead in assists (4), has been raising money for the Canadian Cancer Society through her “Howie x Ratt Pack,” initiative in honour of her friend and former teammate, Erica Howe, who was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2024. Rattray has raised over $4,800 and donates $50 for every Fleet win and point she earns on the ice.
Zoe Boyd returns to Ottawa for the first time as a member of the Fleet after playing two seasons in Canada’s capital city to launch her PWHL career. The defender recorded six assists in 39 career games with the Charge and leads the Fleet with 15 hits this season. A video tribute during the first period will officially welcome back the fan favourite.
The league’s top power plays feature Boston at 5/18 (27.8%) and Ottawa at 6/22 (27.3%). The Charge have scored two power play goals in each of their last two games, while the Fleet enter the game with a perfect penalty kill efficiency.
Ottawa has won their last two games against Boston after losing the previous four games in the series. The Charge’s 4-0 win in the last matchup on Apr. 2 was the first shutout by either team in this series all-time. That was also the fourth meeting between top U.S. Women’s National Team goaltenders and former Northeastern teammates, Gwyneth Philips and Aerin Frankel, both with two wins against each other in the PWHL.
The Charge came back to win against the Sceptres, 4-3, after trailing 3-0. That was Ottawa’s largest comeback victory all-time. Ottawa had previously been on the wrong side of two different 3-0 comebacks against New York on Mar. 25 last season (6-3) and Feb. 4, 2024 (4-3, OT), both in Ottawa.
Rebecca Leslie recorded her first-ever PWHL multi-goal game in Tuesday’s win against Toronto. One of those goals came in overtime, which was her first game-winning goal in the PWHL. The Ottawa native is riding her first career three-game point streak (3G, 1A) and previously recorded her first career three-point performance (1G, 2A) on Nov. 26 against Vancouver.
Brianne Jenner had two assists on Tuesday and is off to the best start in her PWHL career as one of six players in the league age 34 or older. The Charge captain is tied for the league lead with eight points in eight games, previously needing 18 games to reach eight points in 2024-25 and 15 games in 2024.
Rory Guilday leads all rookies with six points (1G, 5A) and is the second rookie to produce a three-game point streak (3A) this season following Boston’s Abby Newhook (3G). Guilday was the third defender chosen in the draft at fifth overall, following Fleet second overall pick Haley Winn who is tied for second in rookie scoring with four points (4A).
Sarah Wozniewicz had six shots on goal Tuesday playing on the Charge’s top line and ranks fifth among rookies with 17 shots this season. Boston’s Ella Huber (21) is tied for second among rookies and has the edge over her former University of Minnesota teammate Peyton Hemp (12) who is tied for eighth.
Emily Clark has gone eight games without a point despite leading the league with 28 shots. Her streak is reminiscent of Boston’s Alina Müller who started eight games without a point last season before producing 19 in her final 18 games.
WHAT THEY’RE SAYING
“I’m really happy our group was able to get some time off around the holidays to spend with friends and family. The break provided us with some much needed rest after a lengthy road trip. We’ve liked the consistency in our game through the first part of the season and our goal is to continue building on that foundation. We want to get back to our game quickly and continue setting the standard for how we play as we head into the New Year.” - Fleet Head Coach Kris Sparre
“Boston’s got a great start to their season. They are firing on all cylinders in a lot of ways, but I think for us, it's about how we make sure we come into this rink and do what we want to do. The consistency piece is about focusing on yourself and getting confidence and excitement to go do what you know we can do as a group. And that’s the muscle we've been building and it's getting stronger.” - Charge Head Coach Carla MacLeod
SATURDAY’S GAME: Ottawa returns to TD Place for the first time in 25 days after playing five straight games on the road, winning their last two in overtime. Boston comes to town for the first of two visits this season, playing in their fourth straight road game after a brief stop at home to spend Christmas with family and friends. A full house is expected at TD Place to celebrate the holidays. Fans can support the Charge’s Holiday Card Drive to send festive greetings to ‘light up the days’ for front line hospital workers. Those who donate cards at the Gate 2 merchandise location will be offered a chance to win a signed Charge jersey. The increasingly popular ‘Guess that Kazune’ game will appear on the videoboard showcasing Charge players playing holiday tunes on the kazoo. The Canadian Tire poster station will be behind section 25 for fans to support the team’s return home. Allegra Nocita will sing the National Anthems.
