WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
The Sirens have opened the season with two games on the road and earned wins by the scores of 4-3 and 4-1. Dating back to last season, New York has scored at least four goals in four straight games, the longest such streak in the regular season by any PWHL team.
The No. 1 pick in the 2024 PWHL Draft, Sarah Fillier had two assists in the season opener and followed that with two goals and an assist on Wednesday. Last season, New York had three multi-point games in total from rookies (Chloe Aurard – 2, Brooke Hobson – 1).
North Reading, MA native Alex Carpenter has registered at least one point in 20 of her 26 career PWHL games, including both this season. She is the only player to have a point in at least 20 different PWHL games.
Jessie Eldridge has recorded multi-point performances in three straight games for New York dating back to last season.
Jade Downie-Landry, who scored her first goal of the season on Wednesday, was the only Sirens player to record a hat-trick in the inaugural season and it came in Boston on Jan. 20. Seven of her eight goals last season were against the Fleet.
Goaltender Corinne Schroeder became the first to earn two wins between-the-pipes this season (2.00 GAA, .940 SV%).
The Sirens and Fleet met three times in the Tsongas Center last season, with two of those three games needing overtime (teams split the OT games with goals by Alex Carpenter (NY) and Hannah Brandt (BOS)). The other meeting was a 4-1 New York win in the first-ever game between the teams.
The only team without a point this season, Boston has been held to one goal in each of its first two games. Last season, the Fleet went consecutive games scoring no more than one goal in each on one occasion (Mar. 2-6, streak broken against New York).
Boston has been outshot in both games to open the season, averaging 19.5 shots for. Last season, the Fleet averaged 28.96 shots-per-game and tied for the league-lead with eight wins in games where they were outshot by their opponent,
Both of Boston’s goals this season have been scored by captain Hilary Knight. It’s the first time Knight has scored in consecutive PWHL games in a single season (regular season and playoffs).
Aerin Frankel ranks second in the league with a .941 SV% - the best mark among goaltenders with multiple starts.
Defender Megan Keller leads the Fleet in average time on ice at 21:54. She averaged 25:24 minutes per game last season.
WHAT THEY’RE SAYING
“We're focused on taking ground and building on the identity we’ve been working to establish since day one of camp. Starting the season with three road games is always a challenge, but finishing this swing on a strong note would be an important step for us. We’re ready for the battle against Boston and the opportunity to keep growing as a group.” - Sirens Head Coach Greg Fargo.
“For us, the focus for Sunday is creating more sustained pressure in the offensive zone, getting pucks to the net, and capitalizing on our scoring chances. If we do that and continue to play smart, physical hockey, we’ll give ourselves the best chance.” – Fleet Head Coach Courtney Kessel.
SUNDAY’S GAME: The Fleet will host the New York Sirens for Boston’s second home game of the 2024-25 campaign in a five-day span at UMass Lowell’s Tsongas Center. There will be a special activation brought to you by Hillberg & Berk, honoring the “Sparkle Fan of the Game,” during the third period. Making her PWHL debut in the broadcast booth today is former Fleet forward Gigi Marvin who announced her retirement on Oct. 7. The three-time U.S. Olympic medalist recorded a goal and three assists in 24 games for Boston during the league’s inaugural season.
