SAN JOSE, CA (June 11, 2026) – PWHL San Jose today announced that forward Maggie Connors has been signed to a two-year Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) Standard Player Agreement ahead of the team’s inaugural 2026-27 season. Connors joins PWHL San Jose with a contract through the 2027-28 campaign and becomes the team’s seventh player and second, following defender Hadley Hartmetz (two-year contract), to be added during Phase 3 of the PWHL’s Expansion Player Distribution Process.
Connors elevated her play in her third season with the Toronto Sceptres, spending most of the 2025-26 campaign in a top-six forward role. The 25-year-old native of St. John’s, NL, registered five points (3G, 2A) across 30 games, continuing to demonstrate consistency by competing in every game for a third consecutive season. In 84 career regular-season games, Connors has tallied 13 points (8G, 5A), while adding two points (1G, 1A) in nine postseason appearances. Originally selected with the 62nd pick in the 11th round of the inaugural PWHL Draft, Connors was the only PWHL player from Newfoundland and Labrador during the league’s inaugural season. Prior to beginning her professional career, Connors played collegiately at Princeton University, earning ECAC All-Rookie Team honors as a freshman and All-Ivy League Second Team honors in her sophomore and junior seasons. On the international stage, Connors earned a bronze medal with Canada at the 2018 IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship.
On PWHL San Jose, Connors reunites with Head Coach Troy Ryan following three seasons together in Toronto. She follows the team’s Phase 2 additions of forwards Anne Cherkowski, Kristin O’Neill and Maddi Wheeler, defender Rory Guilday, and goaltender Corinne Schroeder, each signed to two-year contracts. Cherkowski, O’Neill and Wheeler were teammates in the 2025-26 season with the New York Sirens, while O’Neill skated for Ryan and Team Canada at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games.
At the end of the Phase 3 signing period, each expansion team will have up to eight total players by signing a maximum of three players on expiring contracts during this phase. Existing PWHL teams may protect three players under contract for the 2026-27 season, and/or players on expiring contracts signed during this phase, to bring their total protected lists to six players. The Phase 3 signing period continues until Friday, June 12 at 3 p.m. ET, followed by a 5 p.m. ET deadline for existing teams to submit their protection lists prior to the Phase 4 signing period.
A complete list of player signings and transactions is available on the official PWHL Transactions Page. To see the full overview of the status of PWHL player contracts, visit the PWHL Contract Guide here.
