NEW YORK - The New York Sirens today announced that defender Emma Peschel has been signed to a three-year Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) Standard Player Agreement through the 2028-29 season. Peschel was selected by the Sirens with the seventh overall pick in the 2026 PWHL Draft on June 17 and is the first member of the team's six-player draft class to sign ahead of the upcoming campaign.
“Signing Emma to a three-year contract is an important step in continuing to build our team for the future,” said Sirens General Manager Pascal Daoust. “Her game is well suited to the demands of our league and the identity we want to establish as a team - speed, play in tight space, quick execution and physicality. Beyond her on-ice abilities, Emma embodies the values and standards we want to represent as an organization. Her maturity, leadership, and commitment to excellence will strengthen our group and elevate our collective performance. Our fans won’t have to wait long to see the impact she makes every time she steps on the ice.”
Peschel, from Edina, MN, was recently named to the U.S. Women's National Team for the first time and will compete in the 2026 IIHF Women's World Championship beginning Friday in Denmark. The 22-year-old spent all four of her collegiate seasons at The Ohio State University where she won a National Championship in 2024 and was named to the Frozen Four All-Tournament Team in 2025 and 2026. As a senior, she recorded a career-high 39 points (10G, 29A) in 34 games and earned First Team All-American honors. Among her offensive highlights, Peschel matched her career-high with four points (1G, 3A) against Bemidji State on Feb. 20 and ended her Buckeyes career on a nine-game point streak, collecting three goals and 14 assists from Feb. 20 to Mar. 22.
“I’m super excited to officially sign with the Sirens,” said Peschel. “It feels surreal to be in the Big Apple and the Garden State as I start this new chapter of my career. I can’t wait to finally get to the metro area and play in front of our fan base. I'm super pumped to see what the next three years bring!”
The Sirens’ training camp roster of 29 now includes 20 players under contract. Peschel becomes the team’s seventh signed defender and the third player to sign with the team through the 2028-29 season, joining forward Makenna Webster and defender Maja Nylén Persson.
