WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
The Frost are a perfect 5-0 in their playoff history when facing elimination, never allowing more than one goal in such games. They came back to win Game 4, 3-1, after conceding the first goal of the game in the third period. It was the first time every goal of a PWHL playoff game was scored in the third period when both teams scored at least once in the game.
Minnesota has won its last eight playoff games when scoring multiple goals, including five overtime wins. No other PWHL team has eight playoff wins (Ottawa has won five straight playoff games when scoring multiple goals).
Sidney Morin scored twice in Game 4, becoming the third defender to score multiple goals in a PWHL postseason game. The Minnetonka, MN, native joined Lee Stecklein in Game 2 of the 2025 semifinals and Sophie Jaques in Game 2 of the 2024 Walter Cup Finals. Frost defenders have scored five of the team’s nine goals in the series (55.6%), including four by Morin, after the defense had just seven of the team’s 91 goals during the regular season (7.7%).
Kelly Pannek has two multi-point games in the series, including a goal and an assist in Game 4 and two assists in Game 1, after recording one such game across the first 18 games of her playoff career (2A in Game 2 of 2025 semifinals). She is the first player to take more than 100 faceoffs in three straight playoffs, but her 45.7% efficiency in the series (48-for-105) is lower than any of her previous playoff or regular season winning percentages that have all been 53% or higher.
Maddie Rooney is the only goaltender in PWHL history to win 10 career playoff games and her four wins in elimination games are more than all other goaltenders combined, including a 27-save performance in a 4-1 win in Game 5 of the 2024 semifinals against Toronto. Her 29 saves in Game 4 were the most she’s recorded in a playoff game decided in regulation.
In Game 5 of the 2024 semifinals, Taylor Heise (1G, 1A), Kendall Coyne Schofield (2A) and Stecklein (2A) all had multi-point games. Coyne Schofield also had a goal and Heise had an assist in Game 5 of the 2024 finals, a 3-0 win in Boston.
Game 4 was the sixth time Montréal has been held to a goal or scoreless in a postseason game, representing 54.5% of the team’s playoff history. That’s the joint-second most (with Boston) to only the Frost’s seven postseason games with one goal or fewer in PWHL history. In 84 all-time regular season games, Montréal has scored multiple goals 64 times (76.2%).
The Victoire suffered just one multi-goal loss the entire season, prior to Game 4, falling 2-0 to the Fleet in the season opener on Nov. 23. They have won 13 of their 15 multi-goal decisions and 11 of their 19 one-goal games across the entire season.
Maureen Murphy scored the Victoire’s lone goal in Game 4, recording her first point of the 2026 playoffs. She totaled five points in seven games over the previous two playoffs, held without a point in just two of those games. Her three-game point streak in the 2024 playoffs is the longest in team history. Hayley Scamurra (1G, 2A) and Morin (3G) are the only players with current two-game point streaks in the series.
Laura Stacey co-led Montréal with four shots on goal Friday, bringing her to 61 shots in 11 career playoff games. That ranks third in PWHL postseason history behind Grace Zumwinkle (67) and Coyne Schofield (62) who both have twice as many postseason games played (22). The Victoire alternate captain has led the league in shots the last two regular seasons.
Ann-Renée Desbiens has 25+ saves in three straight games of the series. She had eight such games during the regular season but only one instance of consecutive games with 25 or more saves and that came in her first two starts of the season. Each of her record 19 wins during the regular season and all three of her career playoff wins have had two or fewer goals against.
Both teams have scored twice on the power play in the series although Minnesota has had six more opportunities with the player advantage. The Frost’s 11 times shorthanded are the fewest in the playoffs after allowing the fewest power-play chances in all three regular seasons. The Victoire led the league with 43 times shorthanded in home games during the 2025-26 regular season.
WHAT THEY’RE SAYING
"Tonight is going to be a competitive matchup. This series versus Montréal has been very close and back and forth from the drop of the puck in the first game. We know with it being Game 5 that everything is on the line, and we will continue to bring the intensity and urgency from Game 4 into tonight.” - Frost forward Grace Zumwinkle
“We're excited to get back home. The mission remains the same. It's winner takes all and we're excited to be able to get back in front of our fans. They've been supporting us all year, and we feel it even from afar when we're on the road but there's no better place to try to win than in front of our home crowd.” - Victoire Head Coach Kori Cheverie
TUESDAY’S GAME: The 2026 PWHL Walter Cup Playoffs, presented by SharkNinja, conclude tonight with Montréal and Minnesota in Game 5 of the semifinal series at Place Bell, with the winner advancing to the PWHL Walter Cup Finals to face the Ottawa Charge. This is the first time the Victoire have taken a postseason series to five games. Meanwhile, the Frost have been involved in every five-game series in PWHL postseason history, previously defeating Toronto 4-1 in the 2024 semifinals, and Boston 3-0 in the 2024 finals, both on the road. With yesterday’s postponement, there has still not been a Monday night game played the entire PWHL season, however this will be the first-ever PWHL game played on May 12. Even without a game yesterday, May 11 remains one of the most notable dates in postseason history with the two longest games and the highest scoring game all-time. Montréal beat Ottawa 3-2 at 135:33 of the fourth overtime on May 11, 2025, and lost to Boston 2-1 at 111:44 of the third overtime on May 11, 2024. Also on May 11, 2025, Minnesota beat Toronto 7-5 with 12 combined goals between the team representing a league record. DJ Bruno Berdnikoff will keep the Place Bell energy high throughout the night, with national anthems to be performed by Kim Richardson. Tonight’s referees are Jared Cummins and Sydney Harris, with linespersons Antoine Bujold-Roux and Sophie Thomson. Following the game, fans can tune-in for live reaction with Jocks in Jills streaming on the league’s YouTube channel.
