WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

Boston can become the first team to officially clinch a playoff position with a single point in today’s game. Doing so with six remaining games in their schedule, after today, would be the earliest a playoff position has been secured in PWHL history.

In their first two meetings this season, both Boston and Minnesota have scored wins by three goals. The Frost have beaten the Fleet by three or more goals four different times in the regular season, with all other PWHL teams beating Boston by 3+ goals just twice combined (New York and Ottawa).

Boston has set the PWHL record for consecutive shutouts at three as the Fleet have kept Seattle, Vancouver and Toronto all scoreless. Boston has four shutouts this month, the most in a single calendar month in PWHL history.

Aerin Frankel set a league record with her third consecutive shutout Friday night and has not allowed a goal in 191:01. She has started both games of the season series, with one win and one loss, both in regulation. In her most recent meeting with the Frost, she allowed three goals, a season-high at the time.

Amanda Thiele, the Fleet’s sixth-round pick in the 2025 PWHL Draft, will make her PWHL debut between the pipes today. The two-time NCAA champion from Ohio State would become the fifth rookie goaltender to see action in the league this season.

Liz Schepers scored twice in Friday’s win over Toronto after entering the game with two goals in 21 appearances this season. It was the second multi-point game of Schepers’ PWHL career, joining a two-assist performance she had with Minnesota at Boston in last year’s regular-season finale. Following the game, Schepers will receive her 2025 Walter Cup ring in the building she scored the overtime winning goal back on May 26, her second straight championship-winning goal.

Haley Winn is riding a three-game point streak (1G, 3A) for the second time this season with her Friday night assist setting a new PWHL record for points by a rookie defender. Three of her 14 points, all assists, have come in two games against Frost, including her first career multi-point effort on Dec. 7.

After the game, Fleet Head Coach Kris Sparre will be heading back to Toronto to be with his wife and son as she’s scheduled to give birth to their second child on Apr. 3.

The Frost fell to the Victoire, 3-0, at home on Wednesday. It was just the third time all-time that Minnesota has lost at home by at least three goals (Jan. 4, 2025 – 5-0 vs. NY, Mar. 26, 2025 – 4-1 vs. MTL). Among the league’s original six teams, only Montréal has fewer such games (two).

Minnesota has scored 55 even-strength goals this season, 12 more than any other team (Montréal, 43). The Fleet have allowed just 25 even-strength goals, three fewer than any other team (Montréal, 28).

Kelly Pannek (12G, 10A), Britta Curl-Salemme (9G, 13A), and Taylor Heise (7G, 15A) sit together atop the league leaderboard with 22 points scored in as many games. The only player with a higher points-per-game average this season is captain Kendall Coyne Schofield with 16 points (10G, 6A) in 15 games played prior to her stint on LTIR.

Heise is one point away from setting a new career high, currently tied with her point total in 29 games last season (8G, 14A). The Minnesota native notched her first multi-assist outing of the season when these teams met on Dec. 19.

Sidney Morin led Minnesota with four shots on goal on Wednesday, tying a season high. She also led the Frost with 23:24 of ice time. Morin has at least 23 minutes of ice time in six of her last 10 games. She reached that mark just once in her first 12 games this season.

Kendall Cooper earned the first points of her career with a pair of assists against Boston on Dec. 19, launching a six-game point streak (7A). The Frost rookie leads league defenders with 12 assists in 22 games and is looking to end a three-game point drought and keep pace with fellow first-rounder Winn.

Katy Knoll notched her first goal of the season in Minnesota’s 5-2 win over Boston on Dec. 19. She has five goals since but is currently riding a season-high eight-game pointless streak.

Boston leads the league with 46 points from its defense, followed by Minnesota with 40 points. It’s a category the Frost led during the 2024-25 regular-season with 63 points from the blue line. This season, the Fleet’s 40 points represent 33.6% of its offense (highest in PWHL), while the Frost mark stands at 22.7% (second lowest in PWHL).

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING

“We’re looking forward to building off of a strong start to this weekend by bringing a lot of pace and energy tonight. We know it will take a full team effort against Minnesota and are excited for the challenge.” – Fleet forward Liz Schepers

“We are excited to have another opportunity to play a tough opponent in front of our home crowd as we continue to make our push to the playoffs. Boston has consistently been at the top of the standings throughout the season, and we will need to be at our best to come away with the three points that we are looking for.” – Frost alternate captain Kelly Pannek

SUNDAY’S GAME: Minnesota welcomes Boston to Grand Casino Arena for the second and final time this regular-season in the third of four games in the head-to-head regular-season series. It’s the Frost’s second of a two-game homestand before heading to New York to take on the Sirens Wednesday, while the Fleet will have an eight-day break before continuing their road trip in the final Takeover Tour game of the season in Edmonton, against Vancouver, on Apr. 7. The Frost are proud to welcome back Mira Jalosuo, who served as an assistant coach with the team during its first two seasons. Now serving as Head Coach of the St. Cloud State Huskies women’s program, she will receive her 2025 Walter Cup ring during a first intermission presentation. With three games on today’s PWHL schedule, the league has now officially played more games in 2025-26 than during the 90-game regular-season in 2024-25.
