WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
This will be the first PWHL game in Winnipeg, and it will make Manitoba the sixth Canadian province to host a PWHL game. Canada will get two more Takeover Tour games this season, both in Alberta – Calgary on April 1, and Edmonton on April 7.
This is the fourth of five Takeover Tour games for Montréal this season. Each of the first three has been decided by one goal – the Victoire beat the Sceptres in a shootout in Halifax, beat the Goldeneyes 1-0 in Québec City, and lost to the Sirens 2-1 in Washington D.C.
This is the third of four Takeover Tour games for Ottawa. The Charge beat the Frost 3-2 in overtime in Chicago in December and beat the Fleet 2-1 in a shootout in Halifax. Including 2024’s Takeover Weekend games, six of Ottawa’s seven Takeover games have been decided by one goal or a shootout.
Montréal’s Kati Tabin (Winnipeg) and Ottawa’s Jocelyne Larocque (Ste. Anne) are two of the league’s six players from Manitoba. They both represented Canada at the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 and won silver.
Tabin had two assists in Montréal’s 4-1 win over Seattle on Thursday, setting a new career high with nine points. It was her first career multi-assist game and second career multi-point game, previously scoring a goal and an assist on Jan. 19, 2025, in a 2-1 win over the Charge in Québec City, the last time the teams met in the Takeover Tour. The Victoire held open practice in front of hundreds of fans on Saturday at the Hockey For All Center, where Tabin had played high school hockey for Balmoral Hall. She helped coordinate tickets for 80 friends and family members, on top of many local contacts who reached out to say they had purchased tickets to cheer her on.
Larocque was named the Manitoba Indigenous Female Athlete of the Decade in 2021. The only regular season goal of her career came against Montréal on Jan. 20, 2024. Her extended family and friends purchased 280 tickets, and many of her teammates spent Friday morning at the Rē Sauna owned by her sister Chantal in Winnipeg. She also hosted her sister’s U13 Eastman Selects for an autograph session after the Charge’s open practice Saturday. Her nephews Nolan and Rylan and niece Gracie, all under seven, will be reading the Charge starting lineup before the game.
Three of the league’s four players from neighbouring Saskatchewan are in today’s game. The group includes Ottawa’s Emily Clark (Saskatoon) and Brooke Hobson (Prince Albert), and Montréal’s Kaitlin Willoughby (Prince Albert) who will also play in front of a dozen family members who have made the nine-hour drive to Winnipeg.
Charge players Emma Greco, Brooke McQuigge and Ronja Savolainen participated in two youth hockey clinics at the outdoor Camp Manitou hockey rink on Saturday afternoon. Camp Manitou is operational six months a year. With a roof to keep away snow, and an ice plant to ensure quality ice from fall to spring, the rink is a top amenity funded by the True North Foundation, launched by the Winnipeg Jets.
Laura Stacey, one of the league’s 61 Olympians and 17 between today’s teams, is tied for the league lead in scoring post-Olympics (along with Kelly Pannek) with seven points (3G, 4A) in six games. The Victoire alternate captain had her first three-point performance of the season on Thursday (2G, 1A) to give her three straight seasons of 15 or more points.
Rebecca Leslie and Fanuza Kadirova each have three goals since the Olympic break, six of the Charge’s 11 goals scored in those five games. Leslie’s last goal was her 11th of the season and the overtime winner in Vancouver last Saturday. Kadirova has a goal and an assist in the season series.
Montréal is 7-3-0-3 (.692) all-time against Ottawa in the regular season, its best record against any of the non-expansion teams. That includes two wins this season, both in Laval. However, Ottawa has as many playoff wins as it does regular-season wins against the Victoire, knocking them out in four games in last year’s postseason. The teams will wrap up their season series on Apr. 3 with the only game in the nation’s capital at Canadian Tire Centre, home of the Ottawa Senators.
Today’s NCAA Frozen Four final features Ohio State and Wisconsin and the U SPORTS final is Concordia against Montréal. Stephanie Markowski won a 2024 title with the Buckeyes, while Clark and Abby Roque won with the Badgers in 2019, followed by Dara Greig in 2021, and Sarah Wozniewicz in 2023 and 2025. Catherine Dubois and Alexandra Labelle won with the Carabins in 2016.
WHAT THEY’RE SAYING
“The Takeover Tour games are great. I never thought I'd be able to play at home in front of friends and family when I left Winnipeg right after high school. I thought that besides my mom, my dad and my brother who travel to come see me, that people like my uncles, my aunts, my friends, people who maybe can't afford to fly and come see me won't get to see me play again. So this is just such a surreal moment and very emotional, but in a good way, I'm very excited.” - Victoire defender Kati Tabin
“I’ve dreamed of living the experience of playing professional hockey in Winnipeg for a long time. I still sometimes have to pinch myself that this is real and it's not temporary. This is staying. This movement is growing every year and I’m part of it. I almost missed it! I'm 37 years old now. I could have missed this, so I feel incredibly grateful that I'm still able to play at this level and to be a part of something that I could only dream of as a kid. It's crazy!”– Charge defender Jocelyne Larocque
SUNDAY’S GAME: The PWHL makes its Winnipeg debut in the DoorDash PWHL Takeover Tour™ with an all-Canadian matchup between the Montréal Victoire and Ottawa Charge. This is the 12th of 16 games on the 2025-26 Tour, and Winnipeg is one of seven new markets along with Calgary, Chicago, Dallas, Halifax, Hamilton and Washington D.C., and one of six Canadian markets along with returning hosts Edmonton and Québec City. Canada Life Centre is one of 32 venues to host a PWHL game all-time, including one of 18 venues with a current NHL team, with both of those numbers to increase by three by season’s end. Winnipeg co-hosted the 2007 IIHF Women’s World Championship with Selkirk, MB, setting a tournament attendance record at the time. Canada won its ninth gold in 10 Women’s Worlds in this building on Apr. 10, 2007, defeating the United States 5-1. Canada’s roster included Jayna Hefford, PWHL Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations, Victoire Assistant Coach Caroline Ouellette and Director of Business Operations Kim St-Pierre, Charge Head Coach Carla MacLeod, Toronto Sceptres General Manager Gina Kingsbury and Coach Consultant Vicky Sunohara, Vancouver Goldeneyes Player Development Consultant Charline Labonté, and PWHL analysts Tessa Bonhomme and Cheryl Pounder. The PWHL is proud to welcome Winnipeg’s Skylar Park, who won Olympic bronze in 2024 competing in taekwondo, to perform tonight’s ceremonial puck drop. The PWHL has partnered with True North Youth Foundation for today’s game to promote gender equity and empower the next generation of female leaders by offering access to live women's sports experiences. At today’s game, Scotiabank clients can present their debit or credit card at merchandise stands to receive a 10% discount on PWHL gear, and at concessions to receive free popcorn. Scotia Perks will also surprise two lucky fans with a seat upgrade.
