WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

Minnesota earned a 3-2 overtime win when these teams met on Jan. 16, their only meeting so far this season. New York has not lost in regulation to Minnesota since Mar. 16, 2024, going 4-2-2-0 against the Frost since then, including three wins at Grand Casino Arena last season, two of which were shutouts.

The Sirens lost in overtime, 4-3, at home against Ottawa on Tuesday to extend their points streak to seven games, a team record. The Sirens are averaging 2.71 goals per game when playing at Prudential Center this season (3-0-2-2 record) and 1.86 goals per game when playing anywhere else (4-0-0-3 record).

Sarah Fillier recorded two assists on Tuesday, her second straight game with multiple assists to extend her point streak to three (5A). She had multiple assists in just two of her 30 games last season and co-led the league with 16 helpers overall. Her eight assists are third most in the PWHL, behind only Minnesota’s Taylor Heise (11) and Britta Curl-Salemme (nine). All of Fillier’s nine points (1G, 8A) have been recorded in home games this season.

Kristin O’Neill scored her third goal of the season on Tuesday. It was the 11th goal of her PWHL career, including postseason. All 11 goals were scored while O’Neill was playing at home.

Casey O’Brien scored a shorthanded goal for the Sirens in their first matchup of the season against the Frost. New York leads the league with three shorthanded goals, matching their total across the first two seasons. O’Brien is tied for the rookie lead in points with teammate Kristýna Kaltounková, both with nine. They are also the top goal-scoring pair among rookies with Kristýna Kaltounková’s eight and O’Brien’s four.

Paetyn Levis, who hails from Rogers, is the lone Minnesota native on the Sirens roster. Last season, three of her four goals and four of her eight points came in games against the Frost, including a goal and an assist in games at Grand Casino Arena.

Dayle Ross played four seasons at St. Cloud State before being selected by the Sirens in the fourth round in June’s draft. The rookie defender has played four games this season since returning from injury and led the NCAA in blocked shots in 2022-23 and served as a Huskies’ captain in 2024-25.

The Frost fell to the Victoire, 2-1, in overtime at home on Wednesday. Minnesota has played four games in St. Paul this season – they scored a combined 11 goals in their two wins, and two goals in their two losses.

Kelly Pannek scored Minnesota’s lone goal on Wednesday, her second straight game with a goal. Her six goals (in 13 games) are second most on the team behind Kendall Coyne Schofield’s nine. The alternate captain had seven goals in her 54 regular-season games over her first two PWHL seasons.

Coyne Schofield is currently riding a four-game point streak (2G, 4A), one game shy of her career-high of five straight games (Mar. 5 to Apr. 18, 2024). The Frost captain scored the overtime winner the last time the teams met as part of her fourth multi-point performance of the season (1G, 1A).

Heise is also on a four-game point streak (1G, 6A) and could tie her career-high of five straight games (Dec. 4 to 28, 2024) with a point today. Two points today would make her just the fifth player in PWHL history to reach the 50-point milestone (14G, 34A), joining Coyne Schofield (27G, 28A) on the list.

Maddie Rooney will face New York for the first time this season coming off a 24-save victory over Seattle in her last start on Jan. 11. She faced the Sirens twice last season, surrendering only three goals across the two losses.

New York (30.36) and Minnesota (30.15) are two of three PWHL teams averaging more than 30 shots on goal per game this season. Montréal (32.07) currently leads the league. The Sirens led the league last season with a 28.87 average, with the Frost ranked third at 28.20 shots per game.

The Frost participated in the annual Hockey Day Minnesota festivities in Hastings with players present for Friday's AHL matchup when the Iowa Wild hosted the Milwaukee Admirals in the Outdoor Classic. Klára Hymlárová, Denisa Křīžovā, Mae Batherson, Marlène Boissonnault and Kendall Cooper were all in attendance for autographs and a special t-shirt toss to the fans. Pannek joined the FanDuel Sports Network show on Saturday evening to analyze the final game between Rock Ridge and St. Thomas Academy and highlight the event. There are 27 players from Minnesota across the PWHL, including eight on the Frost.

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING

“I obviously love coming home and playing in front of all my family and friends, they always show up for me and I’m so grateful for that. I’m excited to play against Minnesota as it’s always a fun game. We have to get to our game early by playing fast and physical.” – Sirens forward Paetyn Levis

“We’re excited to have New York in town after a great matchup with them last game. Every game and point matters and today will be another opportunity for us to keep building. We must come out strong, fast and carry that energy throughout the entire 60 minutes.” – Frost Head Coach Ken Klee

SUNDAY’S GAME: It’s the second game of a three-game homestand for Minnesota as they welcome New York to Grand Casino Arena for the first of two meetings this season, with the Frost going head-to-head with the Sirens for the second time in nine days. It’s also the second to last game for both teams before the Olympic break. In response to increased need in the community, the Frost are proud to partner with The Food Group to help support neighbors across Minnesota. Fans are encouraged to contribute in various ways, with monetary donations accepted through https://give.mn/ordbcf and a food drive at the team’s next game on Jan. 28 where non-perishable food items may be generously donated as fans are able. Collection bins will be available at all Grand Casino Arena entrances.
