WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

This is the first of five regular-season meetings between these teams this season following a pair of preseason scrimmages at Codey Arena in November. Last season, the Sirens went 3-2-1-0 against Minnesota, with both games at Prudential Center split and decided by a shootout. New York was the only team that the Frost did not beat in regulation last year.

The Frost scored six goals in their home win over Seattle on Sunday (6-2), the first six-goal game by any team this season. Minnesota now has three such games all-time – the rest of the league has combined for five, with only one other team having multiple (Montréal, two).

Grace Zumwinkle scored two goals on Sunday, her third career multi-goal game (hat trick on Jan. 6, 2024, two goals on Dec. 19, 2024). She also recorded nine shots on goal on Sunday – her only PWHL game with more shots came in last season’s Walter Cup clincher (10). Two of her four goals during the 2024-25 season were scored against New York.

Katy Knoll also had a pair of goals on Sunday, her first career multi-goal game. She had scored two combined goals in her first 10 games this season and had just one goal in 21regular-season games a rookie last year but netted twice in the Frost’s postseason run to the Walter Cup. The Amherst native, who celebrates her 25th birthday today, is one of three Frost players from New York along with defenders Brooke Becker (Orchard Park) and Natalie Buchbinder (Fairport).

All three hat tricks in the PWHL this season have been recorded by players in this game, including Frost captain Kendall Coyne Schofield and Sirens forwards Taylor Girard and Casey O’Brien. There have also been four three-assist performances in the PWHL this season, all by players in this game including Minnesota’s Taylor Heise and Sidney Morin, and New York’s Jaime Bourbonnais and Maddi Wheeler.

Heise won three gold medals with the U.S. at the IIHF U18 Women’s Worlds (2016-18), a tournament currently underway in Cape Breton, NS, with semifinals taking place on Saturday between the U.S. and Sweden, and Canada against Czechia. A total of 31 players from both teams competed in the event, including 15 who won at least one gold medal.

The Sirens have won a team record four straight games, all in regulation. Three of those wins have come as the home team, beginning with a Dec. 28 victory over Seattle in Dallas. Their two straight wins at Prudential Center ties a team record set last season with an overtime win over Toronto and a shootout win over Minnesota (Jan. 12-15, 2025).

New York beat Toronto, 2-0, on the road on Jan. 6. It was the third shutout of the season for the Sirens, tied with Boston for the most in the league. The Sirens had five shutouts last season, two more than any other team, including two against the Frost.

Kayle Osborne is tied for the league lead with three shutouts and tied for second with six wins. She has started all 11 games for the Sirens, setting a PWHL record for most consecutive starts in the regular season. Her only appearance against Minnesota came in her PWHL debut on Dec. 22, 2024, stopping 18/19 shots in relief and losing 4-3 in a shootout.

Kristýna Kaltounková scored both of New York’s goals on Jan. 6, giving her seven this season, six of which have come in her last five games and part of a three-game goal streak. The only player with more goals this season is Coyne Schofield. The Sirens first overall pick is the only rookie in the league with more than three goals.

Paetyn Levis, who is tied for fourth on the Sirens in scoring with five points (3G, 2A) this season, scored three of her four goals and four of her eight points last season against Minnesota. Elle Hartje recorded four of her six assists during her 2024-25 rookie campaign against the Frost.

This is the first Sirens game since Sarah Fillier, Kristin O’Neill and Osborne were named among the 23 PWHL players on Canada’s 2026 Olympic roster. On Monday, Sirens defender Maja Nylén-Persson was named as one of four PWHL players on Team Sweden for the Milano Cortina games.

During the 10-day break, the Sirens announced its April 4 game at Madison Square Garden, hosted three Sirens Pro Series events in partnership with the Jr. Rangers, New Jersey Bandits, and Devils Youth Hockey, and participated in the NASDAQ Stock Exchange closing bell ceremony in Times Square.

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING

“I’m very excited to be back in New York. We haven’t seen them since preseason, so it’ll be exciting to see how both teams have improved and grown since November. We’re looking to keeping that momentum from our last home game going here on the road and get back to close the month out at home.” – Frost forward Katy Knoll

“I am so excited for our Hispanic Heritage Celebration Unity Game. I am also excited to get back on the ice with my teammates and compete. We know we have to keep our momentum going in the right direction, and I am excited for our team to get back to work and compete against Minnesota on home ice.” – Sirens forward Taylor Girard

FRIDAY’S GAME: New York’s first game of the season against Minnesota is also the team’s first as part of the PWHL’s Unity Game series in 2025-26, celebrating Hispanic Heritage at Prudential Center. Tonight will honor the rich cultures, traditions, and contributions of Hispanic and Latinx communities to the game of hockey and spotlight the importance of inclusion and representation, welcoming fans to an experience that reflects the diversity of Sirens’ players, fans and the broader New York/New Jersey community.

Fans will have the opportunity to engage with interactive cultural elements displayed throughout the concourse, each accompanied by educational context connecting the item to Hispanic heritage and tradition. Featured elements include:

  • Marigolds — Often associated with celebration, remembrance, and cultural festivals across Latin America, marigolds symbolize life, memory, and the connection between generations.
  • Castanets — A traditional percussion instrument commonly linked to Spanish dance and music, representing rhythm, movement, and artistic expression.
  • Hand Fans — A functional and symbolic accessory used across many Hispanic cultures, particularly in dance and performance, reflecting elegance, storytelling, and tradition.

In addition to these cultural touchpoints, fans can look forward to pre-game, in-game, and post-game activations throughout the arena, including:

  • “Rep Your Roots” Fan Initiative — Encouraging fans to represent their culture and identity by wearing fútbol jerseys, national team kits, heritage apparel, or other meaningful cultural clothing. This initiative celebrates the diversity of the Sirens fanbase while creating authentic moments for in-arena recognition and digital storytelling.
  • Raíces y Rutas (Roots & Routes) Interactive Map — A large map of Latin America and Spain displayed on the concourse, inviting fans to engage and connect their personal heritage to the broader hockey community.
  • Mariachi Band Performance — Mariachi music, deeply rooted in Mexican and Latin American culture, traditionally symbolizes celebration, storytelling, and communal pride. The performance will welcome fans into the arena with vibrant sound and energy, setting a festive tone ahead of puck drop.

The evening will also feature a ceremonial puck drop by the Puerto Rico Women’s National Team, gold medalists at the 2025 IIHF 3-on-3 Series, with the team’s jersey represented during player walk-ins by Sirens captain Micah Zandee-Hart. The national anthem will be performed by Mia Soleil Sanchez.
