WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
Vancouver and Ottawa have split their first two meetings, with the home team winning each game and holding the visiting team to one goal. The Goldeneyes have yet to win multiple games against a single opponent this season, while the Charge have two wins against one team (Minnesota).
The Goldeneyes won on the road for the first time against Boston in Detroit, 4-3, Saturday after trailing, 3-1, in the third period. It was Vancouver’s first-ever comeback win from a multi-goal deficit, and second comeback win overall (the other was the season opener against Seattle). Two of Ottawa’s last three wins have been comebacks ending in OT/SO (down three goals against Toronto, and down one against Boston).
Sophie Jaques and Claire Thompson both scored for the third time on Saturday and are tied for second in goals among PWHL defenders. Izzy Daniel (1G, 1A) and Hannah Miller (1G, 2A) had their first multi-point games and Jenn Gardiner set up the winner with her first point since scoring Dec. 16 vs. Ottawa.
Thompson has points in each of her two games against the Charge this season (1G, 1A) and five straight dating back to last year’s PWHL Walter Cup Finals with four assists as a member of the Frost. Thompson has 31 points in her career (including the postseason) and 11 of them have come against the Charge.
Former Charge teammates Emerance Maschmeyer (8) and Gwyneth Philips (9) are two of six goaltenders with more than five starts this season. Of the group, Philips has faced the most shots on goal per game at 33.22, followed by Maschmeyer at 29.75. Philips faced a season-low 19 shots when the two teams met in Ottawa on Nov. 26, while Maschmeyer’s 34 shots faced was her highest in a game decided in regulation.
Tereza Vanišová leads the Goldeneyes with five assists and was named to Czechia’s Olympic roster for the second time on Tuesday alongside former Charge teammate Kateřina Mrázová, who scored her first goal of the season on Saturday against Minnesota. Nina Jobst-Smith, recently activated from Vancouver’s LTIR, was named to Germany’s roster Wednesday.
Ashton Bell returns to Ottawa for the second time as Vancouver’s captain. Tonight’s country theme is fitting for the Deloraine, MB, native who grew up on a family ranch/farm and competed in the Manitoba High School Rodeo Association.
Ottawa’s win against Minnesota over the weekend extended their winning streak (regulation & OT/SO) to four games after winning just one of their first six games this season. It is tied for the longest streak in team history and second-longest in the PWHL this season behind Boston’s first five games. It was also just the Charge’s second regulation win of the season, with the first against the Goldeneyes at home on Nov. 26.
Brianne Jenner is tied for third in the league with five goals after a pair against the Frost. She also had two goals in her first meeting with the Goldeneyes as part of a record tying four-point effort and is tied for the PWHL lead with two multi-goal games (Kendall Coyne Schofield and Kristýna Kaltounková). Last season it took her 22 games to reach double digits in points, compared to 10 games in 2025-26. The Charge are 16-1 all-time in the regular season when their captain scores.
Sarah Wozniewicz was first star in the win against the Frost after a goal and two assists. Her three points matched the most by any PWHL rookie in a game this season (Casey O’Brien and Maddi Wheeler). Both of her goals this season have been game-winners, tied for the league lead, and all four of the third-round pick’s points have come since a promotion to the team’s top line alongside Jenner and Rebecca Leslie (4-4-8).
Mannon McMahon is the only Charge player with points in both games against the Goldeneyes (1G, 1A), her only two points of the season.
Stephanie Markowski (plus-4) is the only player on either team with a plus-minus rating greater than plus-2. The Charge defender has been a plus-1 in each of her last four games.
Alexa Vasko averages 11:02 minutes per game centering the Charge’s fourth line, but the high-energy veteran’s 16 hits are tied for the team lead with defenders Rory Guilday and Brooke Hobson. Brooke McQuigge leads Vancouver with 19 hits.
Ottawa has the league’s highest shots against average this season at 32.60 per game, followed by Vancouver at 30.10, however the shot differential for both teams is far superior in the third period. Vancouver has a minus-1 shot differential in the final frame compared to a minus-57 in the first two periods, while Ottawa has a minus-4 differential in the third, compared to a minus-35 in the first two periods.
WHAT THEY’RE SAYING
“I think the key goal for us on Friday night against Ottawa is to get ready to play from the start. We want to basically start where we ended our last game in Detroit, which I think was pretty good.” - Goldeneyes forward Tereza Vanišová
“This game is going to be a fun one. We're welcoming back a few players that were really special to the program last year and I think the fans are going to love to see them again. We're one and one against them so far and it's fun to play Vancouver and Seattle, too, because they're just so new. You're not really sure how the teams are going to vibe and what it's going to look like on that day. Whereas, if you play Boston or someone that you've played, 10-12 times, you've got a better idea.” – Charge goaltender Gwyneth Philips
FRIDAY’S GAME: The Charge welcome the Goldeneyes to TD Place for the second and final time in the regular season as Ottawa wraps up a three-game homestand. It’s Country Night at TD Place with several activations to encourage fans to celebrate the country spirit. For the occasion, come taste the Country Burger specialty food item, the Boots ‘n Puck specialty cocktail and $5 beers until the end of the second intermission. There will be line dancing on the concourse and country music played throughout the night. Fans can also take a picture in front of the giant “Charge Country” lights on the concourse. At the merchandise kiosks, look for brand-new Charge Koozies to keep your Friday night beverages ice cold. Fans coming out in plaid and denim will get a chance to win the “Best Dressed” contest during the “Country Cam” segment in the final break of the second period. The popular Canadian Tire ‘My Team My Sign’ poster station is back in section 25. Allegra Nocita will sing the National Anthem.
