WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

The Victoire’s 4-0 win against the Sirens in November was their first shutout win in the matchup’s history. Montréal also won its final game in 2024-25 against New York but has never won three straight in the series. All three games between the teams last season at Prudential Center were one-goal decisions.

Montréal has lost their last two games, both in regulation, for their first consecutive losses of 2025-26. The Victoire have lost three straight games in regulation only once in team history during a stretch in March 2024 that included a game against New York at Bridgeport’s Total Mortgage Arena.

Abby Roque returns to Prudential Center for the first time as a member of Montréal after spending her first two seasons with New York where she produced 30 points (12G, 18A) in 54 career games. She tied a career-high with three points (1G, 2A) when the teams met for the first time Nov. 25 and has points in three straight games (2G, 1A).

Jade Downie-Landry will make her Victoire debut against her former team after signing in her home province during the offseason and missing the team’s first seven games on LTIR with an upper-body injury. She played in all 54 of New York’s games in the first two seasons, scoring 19 points (12G, 7A).

Marie-Philip Poulin has 11 career goals against the Sirens, including one in the first meeting this season. Her 11 goals are the most by any PWHL skater against a single team all-time. The Victoire captain is riding a three-game point streak (1G, 2A), tied for the longest of her career.

Ann-Renée Desbiens made 33 saves for her second career shutout when Montréal beat New York on Nov. 25 at Place Bell. She started all three of the Victoire’s games against the Sirens last season at Prudential Center, winning twice and recording a .924 save percentage.

On this day, Jan. 2, 2024, Montréal played its first-ever PWHL game in Ottawa, a 3-2 overtime win. The winning goal was scored by Ann-Sophie Bettez, assisted by Kati Tabin and current Sirens forward Kristin O’Neill.

The Sirens beat the Goldeneyes, 2-0, on New Year’s Eve for their second shutout victory this season (the first was in the season opener). The only other PWHL team with multiple shutout wins this season is the Fleet (three). The Sirens led the PWHL with five shutout wins in 2024-25.

New York’s two consecutive regulation wins is one shy of the team record of three, which included a 1-0 win over Montréal last season on Apr. 1. All three wins were on the road. The Sirens won consecutive games at Prudential Center once last season, a 1-0 overtime victory against Toronto on Jan. 12 and a 3-2 shootout victory against Minnesota on Jan. 15.

The Sirens were outshot 27-26 on Wednesday against the Goldeneyes, the first time in nine games the team has not outshot its opponent. New York continues to lead the league with an average of 32.78 shots per game and allow the fewest shots against with an average of 25.22 per game.

Kayle Osborne has won back-to-back games for the first time in her career and is looking for her first career win against Montréal. Two of her four wins have been shutouts this season, and three of her six career wins have been shutouts. She’s the only goaltender to start each of her team’s games this season.

Kristýna Kaltounková and Taylor Girard are tied for second in the PWHL with four goals each this season. The Sirens are one of two teams this season with multiple players with at least four goals (the Torrent are the other with Alex Carpenter and Julia Gosling).

Casey O’Brien (3G, 2A) and Maddi Wheeler (1G, 4A) are tied for second in rookie scoring with five points each. New York leads the league with 19 points from six different rookies so far this season, representing 38% of the team’s 50 points.

New York is 2-0-0-0 all-time in their first games played in January. Both games were shutout victories on the road, first winning 4-0 in Toronto on Jan. 1, 2024 in the league’s inaugural game, then 5-0 in Minnesota on Jan. 4, 2025.

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING

“I'm really excited to go back to New York, where I will get to see some old friends, see the team, but I'm really more excited to play against them and hopefully come home with a win.” – Victoire forward Abby Roque

“Our recent momentum has come from our habits and our commitment to the process. We like where our game is trending, but today is about discipline, connection, and competing the right way. Montréal is a very good team and always a tough matchup. We’ll need to be ready.” - Sirens Head Coach Greg Fargo

FRIDAY’S GAME: After hosting the last game of 2025 on New Year’s Eve, New York hosts the PWHL’s first game of 2026 as they welcome Montréal to Prudential Center for the first of two games this season. The Sirens are bringing the magic of the stage to the rink for Broadway Day, celebrating the lights, music, and energy of New York City’s iconic theater scene. Fans can expect a unique blend of Sirens hockey and show-stopping entertainment throughout the game, designed to capture the excitement and spectacle of Broadway. In the concourse, fans are invited to show their creativity at the Midea sign-making station, adding to the interactive experience. The game will also feature special “thank you” video tributes welcoming back former Sirens Abby Roque and Jade Downie-Landry. Last season, several Sirens players attended a live performance of the Broadway show Suffs and captain Micah Zandee-Hart was able to gift American actress and singer Jennifer Colella a Sirens jersey.
