Montréal Victoire forward and captain Marie-Philip Poulin has been voted the IIHF Female Player of the Year for 2024-25.

Amidst a standout PWHL season with the Victoire - for which Poulin is a finalist for the Billie Jean King MVP and Forward of the Year Awards - the 34-year-old forward won a silver medal with Team Canada at the 2025 Women’s World Championship, earning tournament MVP honors. Poulin's 12 points in seven games led the tournament in scoring.

In 30 regular-season games with the Victoire, Poulin totaled a league-leading 19 goals and finished fourth with 26 total points. The Beauceville, QC native scored a record six game-winning goals and led the league with five multi-goal games that included the first hat-trick of the season. She set new standards with a record plus-minus rating (+17), most shootout goals (5), faceoff attempts (669), faceoff wins (403), and her talent was recognized a league-high 12 times as one of the game’s three stars.

Finalists for the award from the PWHL were American goaltenders Aerin Frankel and Gwyneth Philips, and forward Hilary Knight. Knight was the inaugural recipient of the award for the 2022-23 season, with Natalie Spooner selected for 2023-24.

About the Award

The IIHF Female Player of the Year Award is given every year to a player who has best demonstrated exceptional skill, determination, team success, and sporting character on and off the ice during the most recent season.

The player must have competed in at least one IIHF tournament at any level this past season (Women’s World Championship, Women’s U18 World Championship) as well as in a domestic league of the highest calibre for that country, the combined performances of which are considered superior to all other players. Career achievements have no merit in the voting. Candidates must be selected based only on this past year’s achievements.
