WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

Dallas is the fourth Takeover Tour stop this season, and the first Takeover Tour game for either of these teams this season. This will be the furthest south that a PWHL game has ever taken place, surpassing last year’s Takeover Tour game in Denver.

This will be Seattle’s first game outside the Pacific Northwest – the Torrent opened the season with an overtime loss in Vancouver before playing five straight games at home (3-0-0-2). This is the first of four Takeover Tour games for Seattle, the last of which will be a rematch between these teams in Chicago on March 25.

This is the first of five Takeover Tour games for the Sirens this season, tied for most in the PWHL. New York is the only team this season playing all of its Takeover Tour games in the United States. In last season’s Takeover Tour games, the Sirens lost to Boston in a shootout in Buffalo and beat Minnesota in Detroit.

There are 88 American players in the PWHL representing 19 different states. The league’s only two players from Texas are competing in this game, with Torrent forward Hannah Bilka from nearby Coppell and Sirens defender Allyson Simpson from Frisco. The pair performed the ceremonial puck drop on Saturday night before the Dallas Stars took on the Chicago Blackhawks after meeting fans during the team’s afternoon open practices and autograph sessions. Bilka is expecting over 60 family and friends at today’s game, with Simpson’s contingent exceeding 100.

Bilka and Simpson were both selected in the 2024 PWHL Draft, years after leaving Texas to attend Shattuck-St. Mary’s to pursue their hockey careers. Simpson left after playing 13U in Dallas in 2013-14, and Bilka followed in her footsteps one year later. They played together for the Shattuck U16 team in 2016-17 and two seasons on the prep team from 2017-19 alongside Sirens rookie Casey O’Brien. All three players won gold together at the 2018 IIHF U18 Women’s Worlds.

Bilka is tied for second on the Torrent with six points (2G, 4A) in six games, already more than half of her total from last season with Boston (11 points in 16 games). She leads the PWHL with four power play assists, setting up all four of the team’s PPGs. She recorded a career-high three-point performance on Dec. 17 with a goal and two assists in a 4-1 win over Ottawa.

Simpson fell in love with hockey attending Stars games at American Airlines Center with her father, James, who was often gifted tickets from his connections as a golf pro. She recently launched the ‘Shake On’ fundraising campaign in support of Parkinson’s disease awareness and research. In 2015, James was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and has used the phrase ‘Shake On’ as a reminder to keep moving forward despite the diagnosis. Ally, who wears #20, will pledge $20 for every point and blocked shot she compiles, and every Sirens win. All proceeds will go directly to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.

Kayle Osborne has played all seven games for the Sirens this season. One of her 10 appearances as a rookie last season was in the Takeover Tour game in Buffalo with 30 saves in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Fleet. She’s connected to both Torrent goaltenders having played with Corinne Schroeder in New York and Hannah Murphy at Colgate. Schroeder made 33 saves in last season’s 4-1 Takeover Tour win in Detroit over the Frost but is still looking for her first win of the season with Seattle. Murphy has won all three of her starts for the Torrent and leads all PWHL netminders with a .966 save percentage.

Jessie Eldridge comes to Dallas riding her first point streak as a member of Seattle (1G, 1A). She put together five different point streaks over two seasons spent with New York. Another former Siren, Alex Carpenter, is tied for the team lead with four goals in six games. With 49 career points (23G, 26A), the Torrent alternate captain could become just the second player in PWHL history to reach 50 following Marie-Philip Poulin.

These teams already met once this season, with the Torrent earning their first-ever win with a 2-1 decision. The Sirens opened the scoring through Paetyn Levis, but two late power-play goals in the third period (scored by Carpenter at 18:36 and captain Hilary Knight at 18:58) during a five-minute advantage gave Seattle the win. Bilka assisted on both goals. The loss launched New York’s current four-game losing streak.

Kristýna Kaltounková, New York’s first overall pick in the 2025 PWHL Draft, leads all rookies with 27 shots on goal. In the Sirens last game against Toronto, the Czech forward became the first rookie to record a two-goal game this season.

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING

“The Takeover Tour has become a powerful part of the league’s vision, and I’m excited to experience it firsthand in Dallas. These games showcase the reach and momentum of the PWHL and having Hannah Bilka represent our team in her home state of Texas highlights how the league continues to connect with fans and inspire the next generation.” – Torrent Head Coach Steve O’Rourke

“I can’t tell you how excited I am to be playing in my home state. I am filled with so much gratitude that I get to play the sport I love in front of the people I love. I am excited for Dallas to see all the PWHL has to offer. If we can inspire just one more girl from this area to pick up a stick or another to keep playing that extra season, then I will be so proud of our efforts here.” – Sirens defender Allyson Simpson

SUNDAY’S GAME: The Seattle Torrent and the New York Sirens meet for the second time this season in the PWHL Takeover Tour™ presented by BJ’s Wholesale Club. Dallas is one of seven new cities on this season’s Takeover Tour along with Calgary, Chicago, Halifax, Hamilton, Washington, D.C. and Winnipeg. American Airlines Center becomes the 29th venue to host a PWHL game all-time and 16th venue with a current NHL team. Texas is the 13th U.S. state to host a game all-time, joining Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Washington. Back in 1993, women’s hockey was included at the U.S. Olympic Festival for the first time, held in San Antonio, prior to the sport’s Olympic debut in 1998. Fast forward 32 years and PWHL players are gearing up to represent their countries at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milano Cortina in February. Today’s game will be another celebration of the growing popularity for women’s hockey in Dallas following the sold-out PWHL x Dallas Stars Girls Hockey Day back on Dec. 7 that featured special guest PWHL Ambassadors Victoria Bach, Kacey Bellamy, Erica Howe and Haley Skarupa. The PWHL has partnered with local nonprofits including Dallas Parks and Rec Future Stars Program, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas and Pasos for Oak Cliff, for today’s game to promote gender equity and empower the next generation of female leaders by offering access to live women's sports experiences. A second intermission scrimmage will feature members of the Dallas Stars All Girls Rec Program. Fans arriving at the game will see a life-sized shopping cart outside the venue called the ‘Shopper Chopper’ along with BJ’s Wholesale Club activations on the concourse.
