WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

This is the first ever meeting between the Victoire and the Torrent. Montréal won its first game against an expansion team this season, 4-2, in Vancouver over the weekend. The only remaining team the Torrent have not played is the Sceptres.

The Victoire own a four-game winning streak (three in regulation, one in OT) after losing the season opener. It is the third win streak of four games or longer in Victoire history. They won four straight in December last year and six straight in January/February last season.

Dara Greig and Shiann Darkangelo both scored their first goals of the season in Montréal’s win in Vancouver. The Victoire have 10 different players with a goal this season, second most in the league behind the Fleet (12; Boston has played two more games than Montréal).

Marie-Philip Poulin scored her second goal of the season on Saturday in Vancouver to bring her career total to 31 goals in 56 games, the most all-time. The Victoire captain has now scored against every PWHL opponent, except for Seattle, but has scored before at Climate Pledge Arena as a member of Team Canada during the Rivalry Series on Nov. 20, 2022.

Poulin (66.3%) is one of three Victoire centers with a faceoff winning percentage over 50%, along with Alexandra Labelle (66.7%) and Abby Roque (50.9%). Alex Carpenter (61.4%) is the only Torrent center with a winning efficiency on draws.

Laura Stacey scored a power play goal the last time Montréal played at Climate Pledge Arena during the Takeover Tour against Boston, a 3-2 shootout loss, back on Jan. 5. She has one of the team’s two power play goals already this season after tying for second among all PWHL skaters with four PPG during the 2024-25 campaign.

Ann-Renée Desbiens has allowed one or fewer goals in each of her last three starts, all Victoire wins. Last season, she made six starts with one or fewer goals against. Her 0.99 goals-against-average and .966 save percentage are currently the second-best figures in the PWHL and better than the 1.86 GAA and .932 SV% she finished the 2024-25 season with as the league’s Goaltender of the Year.

The Torrent lost Sunday at home against the Fleet, 3-1. Seattle’s lone goal was scored in the third period. Half of the Torrent’s goals this season have come in the third period (5/10), and half of their goals allowed have been in the third period (6/12).

Seattle remains the only PWHL team that has yet to surrender a goal in the second period, while Montréal leads the league with five goals scored this season in the middle frame.

Jessie Eldridge scored her first goal as a member of the Torrent in Sunday’s loss. Eldridge has scored five career goals against the Victoire (all with the Sirens), the second most in PWHL history behind Toronto’s Jesse Compher (six).

Corinne Schroeder has three wins in her career against the Victoire, tied for the third most in league history. The only goalies with more total wins against the Victoire are Vancouver’s Kristen Campbell (seven with Toronto) and Boston’s Aerin Frankel (four).

Hannah Bilka has contributed to six of Seattle’s 10 goals scored so far this season, representing the highest percentage by a single player across the league. She has also assisted on each of the team’s four power play goals. Last season as a rookie with Boston, Bilka recorded four points (2G, 2A) in three games against Montréal, her most against any team.

Mikyla Grant-Mentis recorded her first assist with the Torrent on Sunday and prepares to face her former team for the first time. The forward played 37 games with Montréal over parts of the first two seasons, recording 10 points (5G, 5A).

It’s also the first time three Torrent defenders will face their former team. Cayla Barnes was Montréal’s first round pick in 2024 and recorded 13 points (2G, 11A) in 30 games, and Anna Wilgren was chosen in the fifth round before producing nine points (3G, 6A) in 30 games. Both players were named to the PWHL’s All-Rookie Team. Mariah Keopple played 53 career games with Montréal, recording seven points (3G, 4A), after signing with the team out of the inaugural training camp.

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING

“We’re focusing above all on ourselves, because a large part of what happens is in our own hands. The expansion teams are still in the process of establishing their identity and their style of play. We can talk about certain players and their qualities, but most of the time, what matters is concentrating on what we can control and on how we want to play.” – Victoire rookie defender Nicole Gosling

“We knew the Boston Fleet would be a strong opponent and would challenge our team details. There were areas where we didn’t deliver to our standard, and others where we did, but overall we didn’t play to our full potential in the direct, physical, and fast style of play that defines us. We also understood coming into the season that this would not be a linear process. The positive is we get another opportunity quickly to test ourselves against another very good opponent in the Montréal Victoire on a short turnaround, and that’s exactly where growth happens.” – Torrent Head Coach Steve O’Rourke

TUESDAY’S GAME: It’s the fifth and final game of Seattle’s longest homestand of the inaugural season as they welcome Montréal to Climate Pledge Arena for the first of two visits. The next time the Victoire visit the Torrent will be on the final day of the regular season schedule in April. This marks the PWHL’s 27th and final game before the short holiday break, the most games the league has ever played before Christmas. Fans in attendance tonight can celebrate the festive season by wearing their best holiday sweater for a chance to win 25,000 points courtesy of Alaska Airlines.
