WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
Including last season’s PWHL Walter Cup Finals, these teams have played 16 games against each other – 10 of them have been decided by one goal (Minnesota is 2-5-1-2 in those games), while the other six have all been decided by three or more (Minnesota is 4-0-0-2 in those).
The Charge lost their first three Takeover Tour games last season (0-0-1-2) by a combined score of 10-3 in Québec City (vs. Montréal), Edmonton (vs. Toronto) and Raleigh (vs. Minnesota), but won their last one in St. Louis, 2-1 over Boston. Four of their five goals in those games were scored by players no longer with the team (Tereza Vanišová 3, Shiann Darkangelo 1) – the other was scored by Gabbie Hughes, who returns to the lineup after missing two games with an upper-body injury.
Taylor House hails from nearby Joliet, IL. Before attending Quinnipiac, she was coached by her mom Tami while playing boys’ hockey with the Joliet Jaguars and in girls’ hockey from age 12 with the Chicago Fury. Her parents and brother will be among the group of over 200 here to see her homecoming, including many former Fury teammates. House has two points in 20 career games, scoring her first goal Feb. 26 in Ottawa.
Rebecca Leslie, who scored her second goal of the season Wednesday in Seattle, will hit the Allstate Arena ice just like her older brother Zac did as a member of the AHL’s Chicago Wolves from 2017-19, both wearing No. 37. Zac went to the Calder Cup finals with the Wolves in 2019 and won the unsung hero/community award during his stint in Chicago.
Brooke Hobson may be from Prince Albert, SK, but has spent her last three offseasons in Chicago, the hometown of her boyfriend Gavin, where he has been a paramedic for two years and studies nursing. The defender expects about 20 of their friends and Gavin’s family members in attendance on Sunday.
Olivia Wallin is expected to make her PWHL debut after signing a 10-day contract on Monday. Seattle’s sixth-round pick was added to Ottawa’s roster after being released by the Torrent at the end of training camp. She co-led the University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs in scoring with 40 points in 39 games last season.
Minnesota played in three Takeover Tour games last season, beating Montréal 4-2 in Denver and winning 5-0 over Ottawa in Raleigh, before losing to New York 4-1 in Detroit. The 5-0 win over the Charge is the largest margin of victory in any Takeover Tour game and the only shutout result (Maddie Rooney).
Kendall Coyne Schofield, who scored her league leading fifth goal of the season on Friday, is a proud resident of nearby Palos Heights, IL, and attended high school in Orland Park. She also spent time on the staff of the Chicago Blackhawks as a player development coach for their AHL affiliate, the Rockford IceHogs. This is her first time playing at Allstate Arena.
Coyne Schofield is an active member of the Chicagoland community and established the Kendall & Michael Schofield Family Foundation alongside her husband. Together, they are committed to supporting youth sports organizations, military, first responders, families in need, and furthering the advancement of education and research throughout various local institutions. The Frost captain hosted her ninth annual Kendall Coyne Hockey Camp this past July at the Arctic Ice Arena, with various youth attendees coming to today’s matchup. Also in July, Coyne Schofield threw the first pitch to open the Crosstown Classic for the Chicago White Sox during one of her stops with the Walter Cup.
Britta Curl-Salemme enters Sunday’s PWHL tripleheader as the league’s leading scorer with seven points, including a league-high six assists. Her first goal of the season on Friday was accompanied by an assist for her third multi-point performance of the campaign, the most in the PWHL.
Kendall Cooper, Minnesota’s sixth overall pick in June’s draft, became the third rookie defender to record two assists in a game this season on Friday. The first instance was courtesy of Ottawa’s fifth overall pick, Rory Guilday on Nov. 26.
Chicago last hosted professional women’s hockey during the PWHPA’s Dream Gap Tour in March 2021 with games at United Center and Fifth Third Arena. Coyne Schofield, Kelly Pannek and Lee Stecklein all scored goals across the two weekend games, while Rooney and Nicole Hensley both earned wins.
WHAT THEY’RE SAYING
“We must take advantage of our strengths and use it. We play a physical game. We box out the opponent. We give the small bumps. We become hard to play against when we do that, so we just need to make sure that we do that and force the other team to create mistakes.” – Charge defender Ronja Savolainen
“I'm excited to be a part of one of the first two teams to play for the PWHL in Chicago and what this is going to do for the visibility of the sport. This game will be a see it, be it moment for so many who will see the PWHL for the first time. Being able to play in front of so many family and friends is going to be special. I think all those in attendance are going to see a great hockey game and leave wanting to see more of the PWHL.” – Frost Captain Kendall Coyne Schofield
SUNDAY’S GAME: The 2025 PWHL Walter Cup Finalists meet for the second time this season in the second game of the 2025-26 PWHL Takeover Tour™. Allstate Arena becomes the 28th venue to host a PWHL game all-time, with Chicago one of five markets to host multiple Takeover Tour games this season along with Denver, Detroit, Edmonton and Halifax. The Tour returns on March 25 for a game between the New York Sirens and Seattle Torrent. For today’s ceremonial puck drop, the PWHL is honored to welcome Sarah Spain, an award-winning journalist, best selling author, and a powerful voice for women in sports. Raised in Lake Forest, IL, you can hear her regularly talk PWHL on her women’s sports podcast Good Game with Sarah Spain. The PWHL has partnered with local nonprofits, Girls in the Game, Special Olympics and Willow House for today’s game to promote gender equity and empower the next generation of female leaders by offering access to live women's sports experiences. Today’s game is also a homecoming for members of the officiating team, including referee Samantha Hiller (Gurnee, IL) and linesperson Erika Greenen (Sugar Grove, IL).
