WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

This marks Ottawa’s first game played in the United States this season after three home games to open the campaign and road games in Toronto and Vancouver. The Charge had a regular-season record of 6-0-0-3 in the U.S. last season and won each of their last three regular-season games south of the border over Boston (in Lowell and St. Louis) and New York.

The Charge are playing on consecutive days for the second time in team history and first time on the road. The other occurrence was Jan. 23 & 24, 2024 when Ottawa scored a 3-1 home win over Toronto but followed with a 3-2 home loss to Boston. It’s the first of four PWHL back-to-backs this season, with Boston, Minnesota and Seattle all upcoming.

Anna Shokhina scored Ottawa’s lone goal in Tuesday’s loss to Vancouver. The second-round pick became the third member of the Charge to score her first career goal this season, the most of any team, joining fellow Russian and sixth-round pick Fanuza Kadirova and first-round pick Rory Guilday.

Sanni Ahola, the Charge’s fifth-round pick, is expected to make her first career PWHL start. If called upon, the St. Cloud State graduate would become the first goaltender from Finland to play in the PWHL. Gwyneth Philips has started the team’s last 21 games, between regular-season and playoffs, dating back to Mar. 15. Philips and Emerance Maschmeyer account for 65 of the team’s 67 starts all-time, with the other two attributed to German backstop Sandra Abstreiter in 2024.

Olivia Wallin, a sixth-round pick by Seattle in June’s draft, has accompanied the Charge on their West Coast trip after signing a 10-day contract from the team’s Reserve Player list. She’s on the active roster while forward Gabbie Hughes remains in Ottawa nursing an upper-body injury. If healthy, Hughes would re-join the team for its Takeover Tour game in Chicago Sunday.

Ottawa will see some familiar faces on the Seattle side in former Charge forwards Danielle Serdachny, Natalie Snodgrass and defender Aneta Tejralová. Serdachny (2-6-8 in 30 GP) was the team’s second overall pick in the 2024 draft, while both Snodgrass (2-6-8 in 44 GP), and Tejralová (3-15-18 in 53 GP) spent two seasons in Canada’s capital city. Tejralová is expected back in the lineup for the first time since the season opener, while Snodgrass is expected to miss due to illness.

Half of Seattle’s total shots on goal in its 2-1 win over New York came in the third period (10/20). For the season, 46.8% of the Torrent’s shots on goal have been in the third period (36/77).

Hilary Knight and Alex Carpenter have each tallied exactly five shots in each of their last two games. Both skaters have had 15 career games with five or more SOG, tied for the second most in PWHL history with only Laura Stacey (25) having more. Knight is also one of only two PWHL players with more than 200 career shots on goal (205), behind only Stacey (217).

Knight’s goal in Seattle’s win over New York was her fifth career power-play goal. The Torrent captain had four PPG in her 30 games with Boston last season after not having a single one in her 24 games in the league’s inaugural season.

Hannah Bilka delivered assists on both goals in the Torrent’s victory against the Sirens, her first career multi-assist game in the PWHL. Both assists were on the power play, matching her career power-play assist output entering the game.

Four Torrent players recorded multiple points in two games representing the U.S. in last week’s Rivalry Series including Knight (2G, 2A), Carpenter (1G, 1A), Bilka (2A) and Cayla Barnes (2A). Julia Gosling, who leads the team with two goals this season, stayed hot by scoring a goal for Canada.

Hannah Murphy, who picked up the win in her first career start against New York, is debuting a new mask. Her design reflects Seattle, featuring iconic landmarks like the Pike Place Market sign and Space Needle, Mt. Rainier, and a sasquatch hiding in a meadow of wildflowers. It’s painted in shades of blue with water/wave imagery, the Torrent logo on the back, and the full team name on the top.

Lily Delianedis, Seattle’s third-round pick in the 2025 PWHL Draft, is expected to make her PWHL debut tonight at forward. She was one of two Cornell players selected in June, following Charge rookie defender Guilday who went fifth overall.

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING

“This game is a quick turnaround from our game in Vancouver Tuesday night, but it’s professional hockey. Every team will go through this during the season. We got our feet moving from the second period on in Vancouver and want to carry that over to tonight's game. We’re looking forward to playing in Seattle for the first time and experiencing PWHL hockey in a new city.” – Ottawa Head Coach Carla MacLeod

“The international break gave us a valuable opportunity to spend quality time with the Torrent players who remained with the group and really focus on the small details that ultimately support the bigger picture of our identity. The players were extremely focused, worked with purpose, and showed a real commitment to doing things the right way. Now, we’re excited to welcome our players back from the Rivalry Series and begin integrating everyone as one group again. Our focus shifts to reconnecting as a team and reinforcing the core elements of Torrent hockey—how we practice, how we compete, and how we show up for one another. Every day is another step in building who we are and what we want to be known for.” – Torrent Head Coach Steve O’Rourke

WEDNESDAY’S GAME: It’s Seattle’s third straight home game in a stretch of five before Christmas, including upcoming visits by Boston on Sunday and Montréal next Tuesday. Tonight, the first 6,000 fans to enter Climate Pledge Arena will receive a Torrent branded Carabiner, while supplies last, with camping themed intermission activities scheduled for all to enjoy. The Torrent will also call attention to organizations providing emergency relief efforts for communities impacted by severe flooding across Washington, through in-game announcements and QR codes for donations, including WA State Combined Flood Fund Drive, the Skagit Community Foundation Disaster Relief Fund, and the American Red Cross.
