WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
Boston has won seven consecutive games against New York (five in regulation, two in shootouts). It is the longest win streak by one team against another in PWHL history. The streak started with the first-ever PWHL game played at Prudential Center, a 2-1 win on Apr. 20, 2024.
The Fleet are the first team in PWHL history to win each of their first four games of a season. It is the first time the Fleet have won four straight games in regulation in team history and second time with four straight wins of any kind (also: Feb. 16-23, last season).
Abby Newhook owns a three-game active goal streak, the longest streak in the PWHL this season. There have only been four longer goal streaks in PWHL history: Sarah Fillier (five, Feb/Mar 2025), Laura Stacey (four, Feb/Mar 2025), Brianne Jenner (four, Mar/Apr 2024), Jessie Eldridge (four, Jan. 2024).
Haley Winn recorded her first two PWHL points in Boston’s win over Minnesota before the break. The second overall pick will play her first PWHL game close to home, having grown up in Rochester, NY. The defender spent four years in Potsdam at Clarkson University alongside Sirens second-round pick Anne Cherkowski. The pair were 1-2 in Golden Knights scoring last season (Winn, 14-32-46; Cherkowski, 17-28-45).
Alina Müller has three points (1G, 2A) in four games this season and kept up her offensive touch during the international break, with five points (2G, 3A) in three games representing Switzerland in the Women’s Euro Hockey Tour.
Daniela Pejšová is still looking for her first points of the PWHL season but returns to the Fleet lineup having recorded a goal and an assist with Czechia in the Women’s Euro Hockey Tour during the international break.
Players from both teams stayed active in the community during the break. The Fleet’s Riley Brengman, Liz Schepers and Sophie Shirley hit the ice with the Boston Jr. Terriers for the second of 10 youth hockey events in the Fleet Pro Series, presented by Sullivan Tire, while the Sirens began their Pro Series, presented by Sprouts Farmers Market, with Cherkowski, Maddi Wheeler and Elle Hartje doing a clinic with Hockey in New Jersey with a record 40 participants.
New York was shut out in Vancouver, 4-0, in their last game before the break. It was their second shutout loss in five games, doubling their shutout loss total from all of last season (Feb. 12 vs. BOS, 4-0). The Sirens and Fleet were tied for the fewest shutout losses in the PWHL last season with one each.
Taylor Girard leads the Sirens with three goals this season, representing nearly a third of the team’s total offensive production (10 goals in five games). She has four goals in her Sirens career after scoring four times in 23 games with Boston during the inaugural season. The only other player with goals for both teams in their career is Jill Saulnier (three for Boston, one for New York).
Kristýna Kaltounková and Micah Zandee-Hart are tied for the league lead in penalty minutes with 19, attributed to two minor penalties and a major penalty each. Last season, only 13 players reached 19 penalty minutes for the entire season, and only five players reached that mark in 2024.
Kaltounková scored the winning goal for Czechia in a 5-0 victory over Finland on Friday to wrap up the Women’s Euro Hockey Tour. The first overall pick has her sights set on representing her country at the Olympics after an All-Star performance at the 2025 Women’s Worlds.
Casey O’Brien, who picked up her first career point in New York’s home opener, will have a number of family and friends visit Prudential Center for the first time tonight. The third overall pick was born in New York and moved to Milton, MA when she was nine years old.
Abbey Levy returns to Prudential Center for a special homecoming as it’s her first time back as a member of the Fleet. The goaltender from Congers, NY, spent her first two seasons with New York where she appeared in 10 games. She’s one of two Boston netminders from the state, along with Aerin Frankel from Chappaqua, NY.
Fillier has been held without a point in two PWHL games but scored for Canada in last week’s Rivalry Series. The 2025 Rookie of the Year and co-scoring leader had four points (2G, 2A) in six games against Boston last season and had one three-game stretch where she was held without a point (Apr. 4-29).
WHAT THEY’RE SAYING
“The international break served its purpose. It was great to see our national team players represent their countries, and we’re proud of the work the rest of the group put in at home. Now we’re back to work, back together, and ready to compete on the road.” – Fleet Head Coach Kris Sparre
“I’m very excited to be back home and play in front of our fans. It’s nice to have a home game after a little break from games. There is a lot of energy in our group, and we are excited to get back and play Sirens hockey.” – Sirens forward Taylor Girard
WEDNESDAY’S GAME: It’s the first of four meetings between the Sirens and the Fleet this season and one of two games they’ll play at Prudential Center (Mar. 5). Fans are encouraged to stop by the Sign-Making Kiosk on the main concourse, presented by Midea, to show their creative support throughout the game. The Sirens are proud to welcome the Union Thunder youth hockey team to tonight’s game where they’ll serve as ‘Bench Buddies’ during warmups for a memorable fan experience.
