WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
Boston can become the third team to officially clinch a berth in the PWHL Playoffs with a win of any kind tonight. Montréal can clinch a top-two seed with at least one point which would ensure home ice advantage in the semi-final round.
All four of the games between the Fleet and Victoire since the New Year have gone beyond regulation (two shootout wins by Boston, two overtime wins by Montréal). Each team has scored exactly two goals in regulation in each game. It is the longest streak of games decided beyond regulation for any matchup in PWHL history.
The Fleet shutout the Sceptres, 3-0, in their first game back from the break. It was their second shutout this season (Feb. 12 vs New York) to become the fourth PWHL team to record multiple shutouts. Only Montréal and Toronto have none.
Klára Peslarová made 29 saves in her shutout win against Toronto. It was the third-most saves in a shutout by a PWHL goalie this season (New York’s Kayle Osborne had 31, Corinne Schroeder had 33). Peslarová has played two games and not allowed a goal on 44 shots faced.
Lexie Adzija opened scoring for Boston on Saturday, getting her second goal of the season and first game-winning goal. Following a 13-game pointless drought, the forward has five points (2G, 3A) in her last nine games since Mar. 1.
Hannah Bilka is riding a three-game point streak (1G, 2A) that includes two games at the end of January prior to her stint on LTIR where she missed 14 games. She recorded a secondary assist on the Fleet’s insurance goal in Saturday’s win.
Montréal enters their final home game of the regular season schedule with a 5-3-0-4 record at Place Bell. The Victoire also won home games at Centre Videotron and the Bell Centre, giving them 26 points at home for a points percentage of .619 that ranks second in the PWHL. This is Boston’s final away game of the regular season, playing to a 3-3-3-5 record (.429) which ranks fifth on the road.
The Victoire lost to the Charge Saturday, 3-2, for their second straight loss in regulation. It is the second time the Victoire have lost back-to-back games in regulation this season (also Feb. 18/22). They have lost three straight in regulation just once in the PWHL (Mar. 8-17, 2024).
Anna Wilgren’s goal against the Charge was the 13th by a Montréal defender this season (second most in the PWHL behind the Sirens, 14). Last season, the Victoire were last in the PWHL with just six goals by their defenders.
Marie-Philip Poulin leads the PWHL in goals this season (17), while Hilary Knight is tied for second (15). However, the two have combined for just three goals on 33 shots in five games between one another this season.
Laura Stacey leads the season series with five points (2G, 3A) in five games. She enters the game with the most shots on goal in the PWHL with 105, just three ahead of Knight (102).
Ann-Renée Desbiens has started all five games of the season series, posting three wins with a 1.91 GAA and .915 SV%. Her last PWHL game was Mar. 18 in Boston when she suffered an injury during the second period.
WHAT THEY’RE SAYING
“We battle hard against Montréal every single game. I want us to beat them in 60, I don’t want to go to overtime. We want to take all three points and continue our momentum, our forecheck and attack off the rush.” - Fleet Head Coach Courtney Kessel
“We are looking forward to getting back on the ice for our Fan Appreciation Night. Our fans have supported us throughout the season, and make a difference, so we will work extremely hard to put together a solid effort that will be sure to please them.”- Victoire Head Coach Kori Cheverie
MONDAY’S GAME: This will mark the Victoire's final home game of the regular season, which is also Fan Appreciation Night. Janette Bertrand, one of the most influential and inspiring figures in Québec, will proceed with the ceremonial puck drop. Now 100 years young, the writer, journalist, broadcaster, screenwriter, activist and role model has dedicated her life to defending women's rights. The Victoire will also honour the U SPORTS women's hockey champions as the Bishop's University Gaiters will be attending the game, as will the RSÉQ Cégep champion Limoilou Titans. Former Star Académie contestant Annabel Oreste will sing the national anthems
