WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

The Sirens are officially eliminated from playoff contention, but a regulation win today would earn three ‘Draft Order Points’ and secure the top pick in the order of selection among non-playoff teams for the 2025 PWHL Draft. A win of any kind for New York today would also clinch a playoff berth for Toronto.

New York has taken at least a point in each of their five meetings with Minnesota this season (2-2-1-0) and have won both games at Xcel Energy Center. Five of the 10 all-time meetings in the matchup have gone to overtime, each team’s most against a single opponent.

The Sirens allowed 16 shots on goal in their last game, a 1-0 win at Montréal, the fewest SOG faced in New York’s franchise history. It broke a record set in New York’s previous game, when they allowed 18 in a win at Ottawa.

In New York’s last game before the break, Sarah Fillier notched a game-high five shots on goal. It was Fillier’s eighth game of the season with at least five SOG, the second-most such games by any PWHL skater this season (Laura Stacey – 11).

Jessie Eldridge leads the season series with seven points (3G, 4A) against the Frost - powered entirely by three multi-point performances in two games in Minnesota and one in Detroit.

Alex Carpenter (2G, 6A) was the Sirens’ lone gold medalist at Women’s Worlds and tied Kelly Pannek (4G, 4A) for second in points for Team USA that featured 16 PWHL players.

Noora Tulus won bronze at Women’s Worlds with Finland and finished third in team scoring with four assists in seven games – exceeding her PWHL point total (1G, 1A) in 27 games.

The Frost are the first team in the PWHL to play their final home game of the regular season and hold a 3-3-1-5 record at Xcel Energy Center. Six total wins at their primary home venue is tied with Ottawa for fourth and more than only New York’s four.

Minnesota’s last game was a 5-2 win against Toronto, which was the Frost’s fifth game this season scoring at least five goals. That is the most such games in a season in league history while Minnesota’s six all-time games with at least five goals are also the most.

Brooke McQuigge is on a six-game point streak and only Carpenter has had a longer one in the PWHL this season with a seven-game run from Dec. 1 to Jan. 4. During the streak, the Frost rookie has seven points (2G, 5A) compared to six career points in her 20 PWHL games prior to the start of the streak.

Since the beginning of March, a PWHL team has had at least 14 more shots on goal than their opponent on six different occasions. Five of those occurrences were either by New York (three) or Minnesota (two).

Lee Stecklein was among the Frost’s six gold medalists at Women’s Worlds and was selected one of Team USA’s top three players by the coaches. While still looking for her first PWHL goal this season, the defender found the back of the net twice in the tournament.

Taylor Heise was invited by the Minnesota Wild to bring her gold medal and participate in the pre-game festivities ahead of Game 3 of their Stanley Cup playoff series against the Vegas Gold Knights. Heise performed the traditional “Let’s Play Hockey” call prior to puck drop.

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING

“While yesterday’s results around the league were tough to come to grips with, we still have three important games ahead of us. These games are an opportunity to compete with pride, play for each other, and continue to represent our organization the right way. I know our group is focused on finishing strong, and it starts with Minnesota today.” – Sirens Head Coach Greg Fargo.

“Every game the rest of the way is a playoff game for us. We know we need points today to give ourselves a chance to earn a postseason this week. It was good to get everyone back and playing in front of our amazing fans will give us a boost.” - Frost Head Coach Ken Klee.

SUNDAY’S GAME: Today’s home finale is the Frost’s Fan Appreciation Day. Fans will receive bucket hats presented by Woody Creek Distillers when they arrive at Xcel Energy Center and Frost players will be throwing autographed pucks to the fans during a first period timeout. Captain Kendall Coyne Schofield will be interviewed during pre-game warmups to thank the fans for their continued support. The Frost are also excited to recognize athletes from Special Olympics of Minnesota during the game.
