WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

Ottawa and New York met four times last season with three of the four games seeing at least six combined goals scored. The other meeting was a 3-0 Ottawa win, and the Charge scored at least three goals in all four games.

The Charge have lost three straight games with all three defeats coming in regulation. That is tied for Ottawa’s longest streak of regulation losses in team history, also doing so in its final three games of last season.

Tereza Vanišová had both a goal and assist against the Frost in Ottawa’s last game, her second such game of the season (also vs. Toronto). The only other PWHL player with multiple games with 1G, 1A this season is Abby Boreen (MTL) with two.

The top two picks in the 2024 draft go head-to-head for the first time in the PWHL. No. 1 pick Sarah Fillier leads all rookies with seven points (2G, 5A). No. 2 pick Danielle Serdachny is tied for second among rookies with four points (1G, 3A). Last season in NCAA, Serdachny recorded six points (2G, 4A) in two wins for Colgate against Fillier/Princeton (7-1 on Nov. 17, 6-0 on Jan. 20). The Raiders lineup also had Sirens rookies Allyson Simpson and Kayle Osborne and head coach Greg Fargo.

Kateřina Mrázová (4A) and Savannah Harmon (2G, 2A) led the Charge with four points in four games against the Sirens.

New York has scored at least three goals in each of its last four home games dating back to last season. Prior to the streak, New York had scored three or more goals in just three of their 10 all-time home games.

Alex Carpenter has at least one point in eight straight games dating back to last April. That is tied for the longest active points streak in regular-season play with Hilary Knight BOS).

Carpenter had four points in two games against Ottawa last season, including a two-goal performance on Feb. 4 when the Sirens erased a 3-0 deficit to win 4-3 in overtime. Abby Roque had a career-high three points (1G, 2A) in that contest.

Over the PWHL’s two seasons, New York has a power-play percentage of 30.0% (15/50) in home games. The next-highest home PP% for any PWHL team is the 21.2% by Ottawa (7/33).

The second period has been New York’s best this season scoring nine of their 17 goals with just two against.

Charge players Shiann Darkangelo, Logan Angers, Zoe Boyd, and Taylor House all played at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, CT, less than 100 miles from Prudential Center. The latter three were teammates with Sirens goaltender Corinne Schroeder.

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING

“We know our schedule is challenging at the start of the year with 11 of the first 15 games on the road. We have to learn to manage the wear and tear, know what it means to be on the road and take the perks that come with it. I don’t think it will ever be an excuse for us. There is still lots we like in our game. We’re not far off. I’m really confident in this group. It’s a great hockey team. We just have to find the back of the net a little bit more. We’re right in the mix. It’s been five games. There is still 25 to go.” – Charge Head Coach Carla MacLeod.

“Sunday is a great opportunity for us to face a new challenge in Ottawa. They’re the only team we haven’t seen yet, and it’s a chance to measure ourselves against another quality opponent. Coming off a tough result against Minnesota, we’re eager to get back to our identity and play the brand of hockey we know we’re capable of.” – Sirens Head Coach Greg Fargo.

SUNDAY’S GAME: The Sirens host the team’s first Unity Game of the season, dedicated to raising Mental Health Awareness. This special event emphasizes the importance of breaking the stigma surrounding mental health struggles and fostering a supportive community both on and off the ice. The Sirens are honored to partner with Shoulder Check, a leading organization advocating for mental health awareness and providing resources for those in need.
