The New York Sirens Black History Celebration Unity Game is designed to honor Black history, creativity, and the ongoing contributions of Black artists, leaders, and community-builders within hockey and across sport. Through art, music, cultural performance, and in-arena recognition, the game creates space for reflection, celebration, and meaningful engagement with Black communities. Programming throughout the night is developed in partnership with Black-led organizations and cultural institutions to ensure authenticity, respect, and cultural integrity.

In-Arena Programming

Anthem Performance
The National Anthem will be performed by Sholanty Taylor, a Broadway and television actress whose performance brings vocal excellence and cultural resonance to the opening moments of the Black History Celebration Unity Game.

Ceremonial Puck Drop
The ceremonial puck drop will be performed by Sophia Yeshi, the PWHL’s official Black History Month artist. Sophia’s work anchors the league’s Black History Celebration, using visual storytelling to honor Black history, identity, and cultural legacy through a contemporary lens. Her art serves as a central creative expression of this Unity Game, reflecting themes of resilience, excellence, and community while amplifying Black voices within the hockey space. Her presence on the ice represents the meaningful connection between sport, art, and cultural celebration that defines the PWHL’s Black History Month programming.

Special Guest Recognition
Ivy Harrington, Miss New Jersey USA 2025, will be in attendance as part of the New York Sirens Black History Celebration Unity Game. Her presence recognizes Black excellence, leadership, and representation across sport, culture, and community, and highlights the importance of visibility and impact both on and off the ice.

Concourse Activation
Community organizations and cultural partners will maintain a presence on the concourse throughout the game, providing fans with opportunities for engagement, education, and connection. In addition, a curated art gallery installation will be featured on the concourse, showcasing works by Black artists and creating an immersive visual celebration of Black creativity within the arena.

    A Long Talk is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing racial equity through facilitated dialogue, education, and community engagement. The organization creates structured spaces for honest conversation around race, identity, and accountability, with a focus on driving meaningful understanding and change within institutions, workplaces, and communities. Through its work in sport and beyond, A Long Talk helps foster inclusive environments where individuals and organizations can engage thoughtfully with issues of equity, belonging, and responsibility.

Grounded in a mission to make the world a better place, BITE NJ goes beyond advocacy by delivering tangible, measurable work that supports individuals and families in need while actively working to close gaps in access and opportunity within underserved communities.

As part of the Black History Celebration Unity Game, the museum will curate a concourse gallery featuring works by Black artists, highlighting Black creativity and cultural expression within the game-day environment.

    Black Girl Hockey Club is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing access, representation, and belonging for Black women and girls in hockey. Through community programming, advocacy, and storytelling, BGHC works to challenge systemic barriers within the sport while creating spaces where Black women and girls can see themselves reflected and supported.
