2026 BLACK HISTORY CELEBRATION

The Montréal Victoire Black History Celebration Unity Game is designed to honor the legacy, impact, and ongoing contributions of Black leaders, athletes, artists, and community-builders within hockey and across Montréal. Through music, dance, community storytelling, and in-arena recognition, the game creates space for celebration, education, and meaningful connection with local Black communities.

  • Mathurin Family Foundation

    The Mathurin Family Foundation is a Montréal-based, Black-led organization dedicated to supporting youth and families through education, sport, mentorship, and community development initiatives. Rooted in the belief that access and opportunity are essential to long-term success, the Foundation focuses on empowering young people by removing barriers to participation and creating pathways for leadership, confidence, and growth. Their work reflects a deep commitment to community wellness, youth development, and uplifting Black voices across Montréal.

  • Montréal Steppers

    The Montréal Steppers empower Black youth through movement, performance, and culturally rooted creative expression. Using step and dance as tools for confidence-building and community connection, the group provides young people with a platform to celebrate identity, discipline, and teamwork. Their presence at the Black History Celebration Unity Game highlights the intersection of sport, culture, and youth leadership, while amplifying the voices and creativity of the next generation.

Pre-Game Programming

Anthem Performance by Jennifer Lee-Dupuy

Jennifer Lee-Dupuy is a Montréal-based vocalist whose artistry reflects the city’s cultural diversity. Her performance sets the tone for Black History Celebration Night by honoring excellence, resilience, and creative expression.

Ceremonial Puck Drop: Jennifer Mathurin

Jennifer Mathurin of the Mathurin Family Foundation will perform the ceremonial puck drop. Her leadership and community advocacy reflect the Foundation’s commitment to empowering Black youth and families through education, sport, and mentorship. This moment recognizes the vital role community leaders play in creating access, opportunity, and long-term impact.

In-Game Programming

Concourse Activation – Montréal Steppers Activation

The Montréal Steppers will host a concourse activation celebrating Black youth culture through movement, engagement, and visibility. Fans are invited to connect with the group, learn about their programming, and experience cultural expression beyond the ice.

Warrior of the Game: Jayne-Laure Dumerjean

Jayne-Laure Dumerjean will be recognized as the Warrior of the Game for her leadership and impact within Montreal’s youth sports community. She is the founder of Empowering Her Sports, an initiative dedicated to supporting young athletes on and off the court through mentorship and education. Her work includes organizing conferences for parents and coaches to better support athlete development, wellness, and long-term success, while creating safe, empowering spaces for young athletes to grow as leaders.

Intermission Programming

Both intermissions will feature live sets by DJ Nelles highlighting Black music, culture, and artistry.
