ST. PAUL, MN (August 31, 2026) – The Minnesota Frost today announced that forward Kendall Coyne Schofield has been re-signed to a two-year Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) Standard Player Agreement through the 2027-28 season. With the signing, the Frost has retained its entire leadership core from the first three seasons and back-to-back Walter Cup titles with captain Coyne Schofield and alternate captains Lee Stecklein and Kelly Pannek.
"My first three seasons in Minnesota have been unforgettable for my family and me,” said Coyne Schofield. “We’re thrilled to be back for the next two seasons and can’t wait to return for Season Four. I’m ready to put in the work to bring the Walter Cup back to Minnesota."
Coyne Schofield concluded the 2025-26 campaign with 23 points (12G, 11A) across 23 appearances, making her one of only three PWHL players to produce a point-per-game average of 1.00 or higher last season. The Palos Heights, IL, native led all PWHL skaters with a plus-22 rating and set a career-high 16.9 shooting percentage with her 12 goals scored on 71 shots. The three-time Frost captain holds the best plus-minus career record in PWHL history with 46. By scoring in Game 1 of the PWHL Playoffs against the Montréal Victoire, she became the first player in PWHL history to record a goal in three consecutive postseasons. Coyne Schofield is tied for third in all-time scoring as one of only nine PWHL players to have surpassed the 60-point threshold with 63 in 77 contests, while her 30 goals are tied for fourth all-time.
The 34-year-old is a four-time Olympian, garnering her second Olympic gold medal with Team USA in February. She is one of only six U.S. women’s ice hockey players to have competed in four Olympic Winter Games and has been a member of the National Team for 11 IIHF Women’s World Championships, capturing seven gold medals. Alongside Stecklein and Pannek, Coyne Schofield was one of Minnesota’s first three foundational signings ahead of the inaugural season and has served as captain across all three seasons, while leading the Frost to consecutive Walter Cup championships in 2024 and 2025. Prior to the PWHL, the Northeastern University alum was named the 2016 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award recipient and holds the Huskies’ all-time record for career goals with 141.
The Frost roster now has 17 players under contract for the upcoming season, including 10 forwards, four defenders, and three goaltenders. Coyne Schofield is one of eight two-time Walter Cup winners on the Frost with fellow forwards Pannek, Claire Butorac, Taylor Heise and Grace Zumwinkle, defenders Stecklein and Natalie Buchbinder, and goaltender Maddie Rooney.
