LAS VEGAS, NV (June 8, 2026) – PWHL Las Vegas today announced that defender Erin Ambrose and forward Hayley Scamurra have each been signed to Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) Standard Player Agreements ahead of the team’s inaugural 2026-27 season. Ambrose signed a two-year contract through the 2027-28 season, while Scamurra signed a three-year contract through the 2028-29 campaign. The duo reunites in Las Vegas after helping lead the Montréal Victoire to its first-ever Walter Cup title in 2026.
In her third PWHL season, Ambrose tallied six points (6A) in 21 games and added two postseason points (2A) in nine games in Montréal’s Walter Cup title-winning season. Originally acquired by the Victoire with the sixth overall pick in the first round of the inaugural PWHL Draft, the 32-year-old has appeared in 73 career games across three seasons, all with Montréal, recording 37 points (4G, 33A). She’s tied for eighth in all-time assists and ranks fourth in the category among defenders. The Keswick, Ontario, native’s plus/minus rating (+24) is the best among all defenders in PWHL history. In 16 career postseason games, Ambrose has registered five points (5A). The PWHL’s 2024 Defender of the Year and a 2024 First Team All-Star has represented Canada on the international stage, securing medals at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milano Cortina (silver) and 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing (gold). She’s also a seven-time IIHF Women’s World Championship medalist (three gold, three silver, one bronze). Ambrose competed collegiately at Clarkson University and was a 2014 NCAA National Champion.
Scamurra played a significant role in helping lead Montréal to its first Walter Cup title, contributing four points (2G, 2A) in nine postseason games. She skated in all 30 of the Victoire’s regular-season contests, recording a career-high 16 points (8G, 8A) after posting 13 points (6G, 7A) in her first two PWHL seasons combined, split between Ottawa and Toronto. The 31-year-old native of Buffalo, NY, has posted 29 points (14G, 15A) in 79 career games and has added five points (3G, 2A) in a pair of postseason campaigns with Montréal and Toronto (2025). Scamurra was originally selected with the 29th overall pick in the fifth round of the inaugural PWHL Draft by Ottawa, was traded to Toronto in December 2024, then signed with Montréal in June 2025. A graduate of Northeastern University, Scamurra has represented the United States on the international stage and became the first-ever player to win Olympic gold and the Walter Cup in the same season, also earning a silver medal at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games and six medals (three gold, three silver) at IIHF Women’s World Championships. She and Ambrose are two of the PWHL’s 14 players who are members of the Triple Gold Club, consisting of Olympic gold, World Championship gold, and a Walter Cup title in their careers.
The two players joined PWHL Las Vegas during Phase 2 of the PWHL’s Expansion Roster Distribution Process along with former Minnesota Frost defenders Mae Batherson and Kendall Cooper, each signed to two-year contracts.
Phase 2 of the Expansion Player Distribution Process, which began Friday at 12 p.m. ET, allowed each expansion team to build the foundation of its roster by acquiring five players through signings and, if necessary, a player selection process. Only players identified on an expansion team’s initial 20-player Exclusive Negotiation Target List are eligible to be signed during Phase 2. Existing teams can lose a maximum of three players who are under contract for the 2026-27 season during this phase. Read the full rules here.
