We are proud to celebrate Black History Month - as part of our Unity Games series - to highlight the impact and legacy of our Black athletes and communities on and off the ice.

The vibrant artwork featured on our Black History Month logo is created by Kezna Dalz, a Montréal-based multidisciplinary artist. Known for her bold use of color and ability to transform difficult subjects into accessible and inviting imagery, Kezna’s unique artistic style captures the spirit of resilience, community, and joy that resonates throughout Black history and culture — on and off the ice.

Black History Month Unity Game

The Fleet will celebrate Black History Month on Feb. 16, 2025, when they host the Sirens at Tsongas Center. The Unity Game will include a variety of activations designed to recognize the importance of Black history, while highlighting Black voices and organizations.

In-Game Activations:

  • National Anthem: Michelle Brooks-Thompson, an award-winning vocalist known for her powerful performances, will sing the national anthem.
  • Ceremonial Puck Drop: Brianna Mastel; Brianna Mastel is a Harvard graduate and former professional hockey player for the Boston Pride in the PHF. A standout defender during her collegiate career, she played four seasons with the Harvard Crimson, earning a reputation for her leadership and strong two-way play. After transitioning to the pro level, she continued to contribute to the growth of women's hockey. As a proud advocate for diversity and inclusion in the sport, Brianna remains committed to creating opportunities for the next generation.

Intermission Features:

  • A Long Talk Activation: Representatives from A Long Talk will engage with fans during timeouts and intermissions, educating attendees about anti-racism work and the ongoing fight for racial equity in sports and society.
  • Musical Performance: Intermission performance from Michelle Brooks Thompson of “Stand Up for Love”.

Community Organizations in Attendance:

  • A Long Talk: An anti-racism activation experience designed to empower participants with the knowledge and tools to challenge systemic racism. Through guided discussions and community engagement, A Long Talk fosters ongoing action toward racial equity.
  • Black Youth Sports Ministry: Recognizing the intersection of faith, sports, and well-being, this initiative supports Black athletes, coaches, and staff by providing culturally relevant spiritual care, mentorship, and educational resources.
  • City BBQ: A Black-owned restaurant bringing authentic flavors to the game-day experience, reinforcing the importance of supporting Black businesses.
  • Afro-American Community Collaborative: A Boston-based organization dedicated to uplifting and empowering the local Black community through advocacy, education, and cultural enrichment. The collective fosters connections, provides essential resources, and creates opportunities for economic and social growth, ensuring that Black voices and experiences are celebrated and supported.
