The Game's Greatest Rivalry

Since women’s hockey debuted at the Olympic Winter Games in 1998, the rivalry between Canada and the United States has defined the sport, with the two countries meeting at the gold-medal game at six of seven tournaments. The United States won the inaugural Games before Canada established supremacy, winning four straight golds from 2002 to 2014. In 2018, a hungry Team USA took the top spot, only for Canada to reclaim it in 2022. What happens next is unknown, but one thing is certain: The level of play in 2026 will be higher than ever, fueled by the PWHL’s fierce competition and unmatched standards.
