CANADA HOLDS SWITZERLAND TO JUST SIX SHOTS ON GOAL AS THE REIGNING OLYMPIC CHAMPIONS WIN THEIR OPENING MATCH IN MILANO CORTINA

After having their first match postponed due to a norovirus outbreak, Canada finally began Olympic play this afternoon against Switzerland. Although the Swiss hung around for much of the game, Toronto Sceptres forward Natalie Spooner was eventually able to break through in the second period, and Canada exploded in the third to seal the deal for the reigning Olympic champions. Canada held the Swiss offense to just six shots on goal, as Vancouver Goldeneyes netminder Emerance Maschmeyer was rarely tested beyond a handful of attempts.

After one game played, Canada sits second in Group A behind the United States, who won their second game of the tournament earlier today. Switzerland is right behind the two giants in third place with two points of their own.

Both teams return to action on Monday, with Switzerland facing the Americans at 2:40 p.m. ET and Canada following shortly after at 3:10 p.m. ET against Czechia.
