WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
New York makes their first and only trip to Seattle this season on the heels of a 5-1 win in their home opener against Vancouver on Saturday. All three of the Sirens’ games this season have been decided by four goals, marking the first time any PWHL team has played in three straight games decided by at least four goals (Ottawa joined that list on Tuesday).
The Sirens have scored at least four goals in both of their wins this season. Last season, New York scored at least four goals in seven games – only Minnesota (nine) had more such games. New York was 5-1-1-0 in those games last year.
Paetyn Levis recorded her first career multi-point game with a goal and an assist on Saturday. Levis had played in 55 career PWHL games prior to that, totaling 11 points (4G, 7A).
Anne Cherkowski was named the first star of Saturday’s game after recording her first two career points (both assists). The second-round pick’s last multi-point game came in last season’s NCAA Tournament when she had a goal and an assist in Clarkson’s 3-1 win over Boston University on Mar. 13.
Kristýna Kaltounková scored her first PWHL goal and Casey O’Brien picked up her first PWHL assist on Saturday. Kaltounková, the first overall pick in the 2025 PWHL Draft, left Colgate University second on the all-time points list behind Seattle’s Danielle Serdachny, and O’Brien, the third overall pick, won the Patty Kazmaier Award and surpassed Torrent captain Hilary Knight’s all-time points record at Wisconsin.
Kayle Osborne has started all three games for the Sirens so far this season with a 1.37 GAA and .949 SV%. She is most familiar with Seattle’s goaltending tandem having played with Corinne Schroeder last season in New York and three seasons with Torrent second-round pick Hannah Murphy at Colgate.
Kristin O’Neill, who scored her first goal as a member of the Sirens shorthanded on Saturday, will play at Climate Pledge Arena for the third time tonight. Last season, she played for Montréal during the PWHL Takeover Tour against New York teammate Taylor Girard on Boston. O’Neill also suited up for Canada during the 2022-23 Rivalry Series alongside fellow Sirens Jaime Bourbonnais and Micah Zandee-Hart.
Seattle is in search of their first win of their inaugural season after being shut out by Minnesota, 3-0, in their first-ever home game on Friday. The only other PWHL team not to score in its inaugural home game is Toronto in 2024, who went on to finish that season with the league’s best record.
Knight had five shots on goal on Friday after being held without a shot in Seattle’s first game of the season. Last season, the Torrent captain had seven games with at least five shots on goal and finished with eight goals and four assists in those seven games.
Alex Carpenter, Jessie Eldridge and Schroeder will face their former Sirens teammates for the first time as members of the Torrent. Carpenter is New York’s all-time leading scorer, producing 43 points in 50 career games before signing with Seattle and being named alternate captain. Eldridge, chosen in the third-round of the Expansion Draft, ranks second on New York’s all-time list with 38 points and played in all 54 of the team’s games in two seasons. Schroeder appeared in 35 games for New York and amassed 17 wins and a PWHL record five career shutouts.
Schroeder will debut her new mask which has a lot of Pacific Northwest imagery, including Mt. Rainier, the Space Needle and Seattle skyline, trees, rushing water and waves, along with the Torrent logo. It also has her classic bricks, keeping in line with every mask she’s worn since her first college season. The bricks in this version replicate a seawall holding back waves.
Cayla Barnes leads all Seattle players in average time on ice through two games (26:24), playing nearly six minutes more than Carpenter who ranks second on the team (20:46). That’s the largest difference between two skaters on the same team across the PWHL.
Jenna Buglioni is one of three Seattle rookies to debut this season, with the first-round pick still searching for her first professional point. The former Ohio State star played last season alongside Sirens fourth-round pick Maddi Wheeler who leads all rookies with three assists.
WHAT THEY’RE SAYING
“We’re looking forward to this game. Obviously, we were happy with our home opener, but it’s still early in the season and we know we have to take it one day at a time and keep building. Tonight is another opportunity for our team to grow against a team we haven’t played yet.” – Sirens Captain Micah Zandee-Hart
“New York is off to a great start this season. They’ve got some young talent and some great returning talent as well, but we know that no matter who we’re playing night in night out that it’s going be a battle and this game is no different. We’re looking to build our systems, focus on our game, and play Seattle Torrent hockey. We’re excited to bring that tonight and look for a good outcome at final buzzer.” – Torrent Alternate Captain Emily Brown
WEDNESDAY’S GAME: The Torrent return to action at Climate Pledge Arena following Friday’s historic home opener with a record-setting crowd of 16,014. Tonight is a celebration of Community Heroes where groups will be recognized throughout the game for their service and dedication, including Healthcare Workers and Educators, First Responders, and Active Duty Military and Veterans. Madison Stoneman will perform the national anthem, and DJ Cide will keep the energy high with music throughout the game.
