2024 PWHL Awards Finalists To Be Revealed May 14-23

NEW YORK AND TORONTO (May 13, 2024) - The Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) will begin announcing the finalists for six of its regular-season awards on Tuesday, May 14. Announcements will continue throughout the PWHL Playoffs, culminating with the finalists for the Billie Jean King MVP Award on Thursday, May 23. Woody Creek Distillers is the presenting partner of the PWHL Awards.

In addition to the Billie Jean King MVP Award, finalists for Rookie of the Year, Coach of the Year, Forward of the Year, Defender of the Year, and Goaltender of the Year will be disclosed. Winners of all PWHL Awards will be announced in June.

Schedule of PWHL Awards Finalists Announcements:

  • Tuesday May 14: Rookie of the Year
  • Wednesday May 15: Coach of the Year
  • Thursday May 16: Forward of the Year
  • Tuesday May 21: Defender of the Year
  • Wednesday May 22: Goaltender of the Year
  • Thursday May 23: Billie Jean King MVP Award
A selection committee of 18 members has voted for this year’s awards, submitting their ballots between the conclusion of the regular-season and the commencement of the playoffs. The selection committee features a cross-section of representatives, including three national media contributors, six media members who provide dedicated coverage of teams in local markets, two former players, a PWHLPA representative, plus all six team head coaches in consultation with general managers. Teams were not permitted to vote for members of their own organization. The members of the selection committee were asked to submit their top three choices for each award, with five points awarded for a first-place vote, three points for a second-place vote, and one point for a third-place vote.

The league’s Ilana Kloss Playoff MVP Award will be presented at the conclusion of the PWHL Finals as determined by an awards selection committee. The PWHL Community Leadership Award recipient will be selected by PWHL executives based on nominations submitted by all six teams. The league’s other two awards were determined at the conclusion of the regular season, with Toronto’s Natalie Spooner finishing as the points leader and top goal scorer.
