29 PROFESSIONAL WOMEN’S HOCKEY LEAGUE (PWHL) PLAYERS COMPETING IN DECEMBER’S RIVALRY SERIES

TORONTO, ON (December 14, 2023) – Top Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) talent will hit the ice representing Canada and the United States as the 2023-24 Rivalry Series continues. A total of 29 PWHL players – 17 on Canada’s National Women’s Team and 12 on the U.S. National Women’s Team – are listed on rosters for the third and fourth games of the series, which are scheduled for Dec. 14 at 7:00 pm. ET in Kitchener, Ontario, and Dec. 16 at 5:00 p.m. ET in Sarnia, Ontario. The games will be broadcast on TSN and RDS in Canada and NHL Network in the United States.

27 of the 29 PWHL players competing this week also suited up in the first two games of the series played in November in Tempe, Arizona, and Los Angeles, California. Hilary Knight (Boston) scored a goal and an assist to lead Team USA to a 3-1 victory in the opening game, and Gabbie Hughes (Ottawa) tallied twice in USA’s 5-2 triumph in the rematch. Returnees Brianne Jenner (Ottawa) and Laura Stacey (Montreal) were among the goal scorers for Canada across the first two contests. Goaltender Ann-Renée Desbiens (Montreal) and forward Loren Gabel (Boston) have been added to Canada’s lineup for the two December games. All 12 PWHL players on the U.S. roster won gold at the 2023 IIHF Women’s World Championship.

Ottawa and Toronto lead all PWHL teams with six players on December’s Rivalry Series rosters, followed by Boston and New York with five players each, Montreal with four players, and Minnesota with three players competing.

The final three games of the series will be played in Saskatoon and Regina, Saskatchewan and St. Paul, Minnesota, in February. In 23 all-time Rivalry Series games since 2018-19, the United States leads with a 12-11 record.
