Canadian Tire PWHL 3-on-3 Showcase scheduled for February 1
TORONTO, ON (November 27, 2023) – Top Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) players will participate in NHL All-Star Thursday on Feb. 1 at Scotiabank Arena, in the Canadian Tire PWHL 3-on-3 Showcase™, part of 2024 NHL All-Star Weekend.
“We can’t wait to showcase our new league and our incredible athletes on NHL All-Star Thursday,” said Jayna Hefford, PWHL Senior Vice President of Hockey Operations. “We’re delighted to be collaborating with the NHL, and we appreciate the opportunity to grow the game through the All-Star platform.
“Over the years, the inclusion of women’s hockey in NHL events has created some very special experiences for players and fans,” Hefford said, “and we’re certain NHL All-Star Thursday will provide even more memorable moments.”
NHL All-Star Thursday starts at 6p.m. ET and will include the Tim Hortons NHL All-Star Player Draft, and the NHL Alumni Man of the Year, Honouring the 1967 Toronto Maple Leafs. Capping off NHL All-Star Thursday will be the Canadian Tire PWHL 3-on-3 Showcase™, featuring elite players from the PWHL, the top professional league in women’s hockey, in a 3-on-3 game showdown in front of the crowd at Scotiabank Arena. NHL All-Star Weekend also includes the NHL All-Star Skills™ presented by DraftKings Sportsbook on Friday, Feb. 2 and the Rogers NHL® All-Star Game on Saturday, Feb. 3.
History has previously been made and barriers broken by current PWHL players who have participated in past NHL All-Star events. Minnesota star forward Kendall Coyne Schofield became the first woman ever to compete in the NHL All-Star Skills Competition in 2019 with her electrifying performance in the Fastest Skater contest. In 2020, teams of American and Canadian elite players went head-to-head in an All-Star 3-on-3 competition. Coyne Schofield represented the American All-Star Team alongside fellow PWHL forwards Hilary Knight (Boston), Alex Carpenter (New York), and defender Lee Stecklein (Minnesota). Canadian All-Stars featured current PWHL forwards Sarah Nurse (Toronto), Marie-Philip Poulin (Montreal), Natalie Spooner (Toronto), Blayre Turnbull (Toronto), defender Renata Fast (Toronto), and goaltender Ann-Renée Desbiens (Montreal). Last year, Carpenter, Knight, Nurse, and Emily Clark (Ottawa) took part in the skills competition in Florida, with Nurse’s deke in the breakaway contest among the event’s highlights.
