NEW YORK AND TORONTO (May 9, 2024) – The Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) today announced that, following three separate reviews with the PWHL Player Safety Committee, Montréal forward Sarah Lefort has been suspended for one game, Minnesota forward Liz Schepers has been fined $500, and Montréal forward Mélodie Daoust has been fined $250.
The incident reviewed involving Lefort was a hit at 14:56 of the first period in Montréal’s game against Boston on May 4. Her suspension will be served in Game 1 of the team’s playoff series against Boston.
The incident reviewed involving Schepers was a hit at 19:53 of the second period in Minnesota’s game against New York on May 4.
The fine for Daoust was imposed for actions during an altercation at 2:50 of the second period against Boston on May 4 where she grabbed the facemask of an opposing player.
The PWHL Player Safety Committee monitors all games and is responsible for providing independent review and recommendations on supplementary discipline. Chaired by Jayna Hefford, PWHL Senior Vice President of Hockey Operations, the committee also includes Cassie Campbell-Pascall, PWHL Special Advisor; Katie Guay, a current NHL and AHL on-ice official; Mike Murphy, a long-time NHL executive and former VP of Hockey Operations; Matt McMahon, a member of the NHL’s Player Safety department.
