COYNE SCHOFIELD, JENNER NAMED CANADIAN TIRE PWHL 3-ON-3 SHOWCASE CAPTAINS

TORONTO, ON (February 1, 2024) –Kendall Coyne Schofield of PWHL Minnesota and Brianne Jenner of PWHL Ottawa will serve as team captains in the Canadian Tire PWHL 3-on-3 Showcase, set to take place tonight at 8 p.m. ET as part of NHL All-Star Thursday. The forwards were voted as captains by their respective Showcase teammates from Team King and Team Kloss.

Coyne Schofield will captain Team King, which will feature hockey legend, and PWHL Special Advisor, Cassie Campbell-Pascall as coach and Olympic and World Champion Figure Skater Tessa Virtue as celebrity coach. Coyne Schofield was named as PWHL Minnesota’s first-ever captain on January 3.

“It’s an honor to be voted as captain for Team King by my teammates,” said Coyne Schofield. “Every player on Team King is worthy of this honor. I’m excited to compete with, and against, all of these incredible players and people who have been a driving force in the creation of the PWHL.”

Across the ice, Jenner will captain Team Kloss, coached by USA Hockey great, and New Jersey Devils Director of Player Development, Meghan Duggan, while 2021 WNBA MVP and New York Liberty forward Jonquel Jones will serve as the team’s celebrity coach. Like Coyne Schofield, Jenner is also the first to wear the ‘C’ in her team’s history—she was named as PWHL Ottawa’s on December 29.

“I feel very honoured to be selected by my peers,” said Jenner. “I’m so inspired by the other women on Team Kloss and I’m very excited to share the ice with them and enjoy this experience together. I know we are all very proud of our new league, and the momentum within our sport. It’s great to be here to celebrate with the NHL and their stars this week and have a platform to share our game with more hockey fans.”

Along with her current role in Minnesota, Coyne Schofield’s captaincy history includes time as an assistant captain for the U-18 US Women’s Hockey Team, and as team captain for the Northeastern Huskies (NCAA) and Team USA’s Senior National Women’s Hockey Team.

Prior to becoming Ottawa’s leader, Jenner captained the U-18 Canadian Women’s Hockey Team and The Calgary Inferno (CWHL). She’s been an assistant captain for Team Canada’s Senior National Women’s Team since 2015.

The Canadian Tire PWHL 3-on-3 Showcase will see players from all six Professional Women’s Hockey League teams compete in a 20-minute game.

Catch the action, live from Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, ON, tonight at 8:00 p.m. ET.
