2024 Sports Business Awards to be presented on May 22 in New York
TORONTO, ON (March 18, 2024) – The Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) has been nominated for a 2024 Sports Business Award in the Sports Breakthrough of the Year category. Launched in 2008, the Sports Business Awards were established by Sports Business Journal to celebrate excellence in the business of sports; the renowned industry publication announced its 2024 nominations today.
“The PWHL is proving to the world that women’s hockey works as a business,” said Royce Cohen, PWHL Advisory Board member. “Everyone involved with our league is proud that this nomination by the Sports Business Journal recognizes how completely committed our players, our staff, our fans and our partners are to continually raising the bar for success in viewership, attendance, partnerships, engagement, innovation and on-ice competition.”
The Sports Breakthrough of the Year award will honor an entry that has made an immediate and significant impact in its category and/or marketplace, has demonstrated excellence, innovation and creativity resulting in a demonstrable impact on the business of sports, and had a breakthrough achievement and saw increased influence during the eligibility period of March 1, 2023, to February 29, 2024. The PWHL is one of four nominees in the category alongside ESPN Creative Studios/Beyond Sports: For Toy Story Funday Football/Big City Greens Classic, The Inaugural NBA In-Season Tournament, and World Champions Cup.
The 17th annual Sports Business Awards includes 90 nominees in 16 different categories that reflect the industry’s best. The winners will be determined by a group of about 40 industry executives. Award recipients will be announced during a live event on Wednesday, May 22, at the New York Marriott Marquis Times Square.
